26、meetthe requirements of Specification B 398/B 398M.5.2 Before stranding, the steel core wire shall meet therequirements of Specification B 341/B 341M, B 498/B 498M,B 502, B 606, B 802/B 802M,orB 803, whichever is appli-cable.5.3 Steel core supplied in a stranded construction shall meetthe requiremen

27、ts of Specification B 500/B 500M, if applicable.6. Joints6.1 Cold-pressure welds, electric-butt welds, and electric-butt, cold-upset welds in the finished individual aluminumalloy wires composing the conductor may be made during thestranding process. Following welding, electric-butt welds shallbe an

28、nealed for a distance of at least 150 mm on each side ofthe weld. No weld shall occur within 15 m of a weld in thesame wire or in any other wire of the completed conductor(Explanatory Note 3).6.2 There shall be no joints made in the finished steel wires.7. Lay Factors7.1 The length of lay in the var

29、ious layers of wire in aconductor shall conform to Table 2 (Explanatory Note 4).7.2 The direction of lay of the outside layer of aluminum-alloy wires shall be right-hand unless otherwise specified in thepurchase order. The direction of lay of the aluminum alloy andsteel wires shall be reversed in su

30、ccessive layers.8. Construction8.1 The number and diameter of aluminum alloy and steelwires and the areas of cross section of aluminum alloy wiresshall conform to the requirements prescribed in Table 1.9. Rated Strength of Conductor9.1 The rated strength of a conductor shall be taken as thesum of th

31、e strengths of the aluminum alloy and steel compo-nents, calculated as follows:9.1.1 The strength contribution of the aluminum-alloy wiresshall be the sum of the strengths of the 6201 wires, calculatedfrom their specified nominal wire diameter and the appropriatespecified minimum average tensile str

32、ength given in Specifi-cation B 398/B 398M, and multiplied by the aluminum-alloyRating Factor percentage for the conductor stranding as indi-cated in Table 3.9.1.2 The strength contribution of the steel core wires shallbe the sum of the strengths of the steel wires, calculated fromtheir specified no

33、minal wire diameter and the appropriatespecified ultimate tensile strength given in SpecificationsB 498/B 498M, B 341/B 341M, B 502, B 606, B 802/B 802M,or B 803, whichever is applicable, and multiplied by the steelRating Factor percentage for the conductor stranding as indi-cated in Table 3.9.1.3 T

34、he rated strengths of conductors calculated in accor-dance with 9.1 and 9.3 and using steel wires in accordance withSpecification B 498/B 498M or B 802/B 802M, Class A coat-ing are shown in Table 1.9.2 Tests for demonstration of rated strength of a conductorare not required by this specification but

35、 may be made if agreedupon between the manufacturer and the purchaser at the time ofplacing an order. If tested, the breaking strength of theconductor shall be not less than the rated strength if failureoccurs in the free length at least 25 mm beyond the end ofeither gripping device, or shall be not

36、 less than 95 % of therated strength if failure occurs inside, or within 25 mm of theend of, either gripping device (Explanatory Note 5).9.3 Rated strength and breaking strength values shall berounded to three significant figures, in the final value only, inaccordance with the rounding method of Pra

Density10.1 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections,etc., the density of aluminum-alloy 6201 shall be taken as 2690kg/m3at 20C.10.2 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections,etc., the density

41、of coated steel wire shall be taken as 7780kg/m3at 20C.10.3 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections,etc., the density of aluminum-clad steel wire shall be taken as6590 kg/m3at 20C.11. Mass and Electrical Resistance11.1 The mass and electrical resistance of a unit length ofstranded conduc

42、tor are a function of the length of lay. Theapproximate mass and electrical resistance may be determinedusing the standard increments shown in Table 4. When greateraccuracy is desired, the increment based on the specific lay ofthe conductor may be calculated (Explanatory Note 6).11.2 In the calculat

43、ion of the electrical resistance of acompleted conductor, the resistivity of coated steel core wiresshall be taken as 0.19157 V-mm2/m at 20C, and the resistivityof aluminum-clad steel core wires shall be taken as 0.0848V-mm2/m at 20C.12. Variation in Area12.1 The area of cross section of the aluminu

44、m-alloy wiresof a conductor shall be not less than 98 % of the area specified.Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, the manufacturermay have the option of determining the cross-sectional area byeither of the following methods, except that in case of questionregarding area compliance, the meth

45、od of 12.1.2 shall be used:12.1.1 The area of cross section may be determined bycalculations from diameter measurements, expressed to threedecimal places, of the component aluminum wires at any pointwhen measured perpendicularly to their axes.12.1.2 The area of cross section of the aluminum-alloywir

46、es of a conductor may be determined by Test MethodB 263. In applying that method the increment in mass resultingfrom stranding may be the applicable value specified in 11.1 ormay be calculated from the measured component dimensionsof the sample under test. In case of question regarding areacomplianc

47、e, the actual mass increment due to stranding shallbe calculated.13. Finish13.1 The conductor shall be free of imperfections notconsistent with good commercial practice.14. Mechanical and Electrical Tests14.1 Tests for mechanical and electrical properties ofaluminum-alloy wires shall be made before

48、stranding (Ex-planatory Note 7).14.2 All aluminum-alloy wires composing the conductorsshall be capable of meeting the bending properties stated inSpecification B 398/B 398M after stranding. Routine produc-tion testing after stranding is not required.14.3 Routine production testing after stranding is

49、 not re-quired. However, when such tests are requested by the pur-chaser and agreed upon by the manufacturer at the time ofordering (or made for other reasons), aluminum wires removedfrom the completed conductor shall have tensile strengths ofnot less than 95 % of the minimum individual test tensilestrength specified for the wire before stranding. The electricalresistivity shall meet the minimum resistivity specified for wirebefore stranding. Elongation tests may be made for informationpurposes only and no minimum values are assigned (Explana-tory Note 7). The frequ
