Scope1.1 This specification covers 8000 series aluminum alloysfabricated into round wires in annealed

3、or intermediate temperssuitable for stranding into conductors or for solid singleconductors, usually to be insulated.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to beregarded separately as the standard. The values in each systemare not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be usedi

Materials and Manufacture4.1 The wire shall be made from drawing stock meeting thechemical composition limits for alloys shown in Table 2 thatare presently registered with registration record or for suchother alloys

17、which may become available and will meet therequirements of this specification.4.1.1 This specification applies to alloys that are recognizedby Underwriters Laboratories, such as aluminum conductormaterial.4.2 Unless otherwise specified, the manufacturer shall havethe option of producing the interme

18、diate temper by eitherstrain-hardening only (H1X) or by strain-hardening and partialannealing (H2X) before or after stranding. (Explanatory Note 1and ANSI H35.1.)5. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance5.1 The wire shall be free of imperfections not consistentwith good commercial practice.6. Tensile P

19、roperties6.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationThe wire shall con-form to tensile strength and elongation requirements prescribedin Table 3. (Explanatory Note 2.)6.2 When requested by the purchaser, tension tests of jointsso permitted in 10.2 shall be made and the joints shall complywith the minimum te

20、nsile requirements shown in Table 3.Sampling shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser andthe manufacturer.7. Resistivity7.1 The electrical resistivity shall not exceed the valuesshown in Table 4. (Explanatory Note 3.)8. Density8.1 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections, andso forth

21、, the density of aluminum alloys listed in Table 1 shallbe taken as 0.098 lb/in.3(2710 kg/m3) at 20C.NOTE 4The metric density for Alloy 8177 is 2700 kg/m3even thoughthe customary value is 0.098 lb/in.3.9. Diameter9.1 The diameter of the wire shall be specified in inches tothe nearest 0.0001 in.; or

22、it shall be specified in millimetres tothe nearest 0.001 mm for wires less than 1.000 mm in diameter,and to the nearest 0.01 mm for wires 1.00 mm in diameter orlarger. The actual wire diameter shall not vary from thespecified diameter by more than the values shown in Table 5.9.2 Standard nominal dia

23、meters of wire used for solidconductors are shown in Table 6. Diameters of wires used forstranded conductor shall be as agreed upon between thepurchaser and the manufacturer.10. Joints10.1 Joints may be made in drawing stock and in the wireprior to final drawing in accordance with good commercialpra

24、ctice.10.2 If agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser, joints may be made during final drawing or in thefinished wire by electrical-butt welding, by cold-pressurewelding, or by electric-butt, cold-upset welding with thefollowing provisions:10.2.1 For sizes 0.0500 to 0.0105 in. (1.270 t

25、o 0.267 mm) indiameter, not more than three such joints shall be present in anyreel, spool, or coil of the specified nominal mass.10.2.2 For sizes larger than 0.0500 in. (1.270 mm) indiameter not more than 10 % of the reels, spools, or coils shallcontain such joints and no such joints shall be close

Sampling11.1 Determine the conformance of the material to therequirements of Sections 6, 7, 9, 10, and 5, by statisticalsampling and inspection of each lot of wire presented forinspection in accordance with Sp

(Explana-tory Note 4.)11.2 Conformance Criteria:11.2.1 Failure of a specimen to conform to the applicablerequirements of Sections 6, 7, 9, 10, and 5 shall constitutefailure of the production unit from which the specimen wastaken.11.2.2 Any lot of wire that has been sampled in acco

33、rdancewith 11.1 and from which the number of specimens failing tocomply with the requirements of Sections 6, 7, 9, 10, and 5does not equal or exceed the appropriate reject number of thesampling table used in accordance with Specification B 830,shall be considered as complying with the requirements o

34、fSections 6, 7, 9, 10, and 5.11.2.3 Rejected lots may be screened to remove noncon-forming production units by testing one specimen from eachproduction unit in the lot for the failing characteristic.11.3 Sample SizeThe sample size shall be the number ofproduction units selected.12. Test Methods12.1

35、Tensile StrengthObtain the tensile strength in accor-dance with Test Methods B 557. (Explanatory Note 2.)12.1.1 If any part of the fracture takes place in the jaws ofthe tension testing machine, or if an examination of thespecimen indicates that there was external damage, the valueobtained may not b

36、e representative of the material. In suchcases discard the test and make a new test.12.2 ResistivityDetermine the electrical resistivity of thematerial in accordance with Test Method B 193. (ExplanatoryNote 3.)12.3 Diameter MeasurementsMeasure the diameter witha micrometer caliper graduated in 0.000

37、1 in. (0.003 mm).Make measurements on each specimen selected for this test.Measure the diameter of the wire at two points, spacedapproximately 90 apart, around the circumference of thespecimen. Take the average of the two readings as the meandiameter of the specimen.12.4 FinishMake a surface-finish

38、inspection with theunaided eye (normal corrective lenses excepted).13. Inspection13.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer shall be responsible for the perfor-mance of all inspection and test requirements specified.13.2 All inspections and tests shall be made

39、 at the place ofmanufacture unless otherwise especially agreed to between themanufacturer and the purchaser at the time of the purchase.13.3 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector represent-ing the purchaser all reasonable manufacturers facilities tosatisfy him that the material is being furnis

40、hed in accordancewith this specification.13.4 Description of Inspection Terms:13.4.1 LotAn inspection lot shall consist of an identifiablequantity of wire subjected to inspection at one time. Each lotshall consist of units of wire of the same size and temper,manufactured under essentially the same c

41、onditions at essen-tially the same time. The amount in any case is not to exceed30 000 lbs. (14 000 kg). (See Explanatory Note 5.)13.4.2 SampleA sample is a quantity of production units(reels, coils, spools) selected at random from the lot for thepurpose of determining that the lot meets the require

42、ments ofthis specification.13.4.3 SpecimenA specimen is a length of wire removedfor test purposes from any individual production unit of thesample.14. Packaging and Package Marking14.1 Package sizes and types shall be agreed upon betweenthe manufacturer and the purchaser in the placing of individual

43、orders.14.2 Unless otherwise specified, the wire shall be suppliedin one continuous length on each reel, coil, or spool.14.3 The wire shall be protected against damage in ordinaryhandling and shipping.14.4 Each package shall bear a tag showing the manufac-turers name or trademark, alloy, temper, siz

44、e, and mass ofmaterial. If additional information is to be required on the tags,it shall be arranged with the manufacturer at the time of placingthe order.15.
