Scope1.1 This standard provides guidelines for users and manu-facturers of silver-tin oxide material produced in strip, rod,wire, and part form for el

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 lot, n(usage involving discrete manufacturedparts

7、)all parts of the same form, and dimensions, from thesame alloy melt or batch of particulate (if manufactured byconsolidation), processed under the same conditions, andsubmitted for inspection at the same time.4. Significance and Use4.1 The methods for manufacture (proprietary or otherwise)of these

8、materials vary significantly among suppliers, and thesemethods influence such properties as arc erosion, contactresistance, and tendency to weld in service. Since the perfor-mance of contacts in a device depends on numerous factorsoutside the contact itself (opening speed, closing speed, contactpres

9、sure, contact bounce, environmental variations, assemblytechnique and variations, etc.) this guide cannot ensure perfor-mance control in the application.As part of the qualification oninitial samples it is recommended that the user electrically testthe materials in a functional manner for all device

10、s applicableto the materials use. This guide will provide a means for thecontact manufacturer and contact user to reach agreement onthe details of material to be supplied for a specific use and howto provide reasonable assurance that future lots will be similarin properties and microstructure to the

11、 initial test of samplecontacts supplied.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Various processes may be utilized to produce silver-tinoxide contact materials. Internal oxidation of a silver-tin alloyis a viable method. However, if oxidized at relatively lowpressures, a binary silver-tin alloy develops a s

12、table layer of tinoxide at the surface which inhibits further oxidation of thematerial. Because of this phenomenon, usually at least a thirdelement (such as indium) is added to the alloy in order topromote internal oxidation. Oxidation may be carried out underelevated oxygen pressure and also at var

13、ious temperatures;oxidation conditions determine size and distribution of theresulting oxide particles. Other manufacturing processes utilizepowder metallurgical techniques. Silver- and tin-oxide pow-ders may be blended and consolidated by heat or pressure, orboth, into wire or strip suitable for fu

14、rther processing, or maybe blended and sintered directly into contacts. Methods thatcan be used to prepare silver- and tinoxide powder mixturesinclude either coprecipitation or sequential precipitation ofsilver and tin compounds from aqueous solutions, coating oftin-oxide particles by precipitation

15、of silver from an aqueoussolution, and powder atomization of a silver-base alloy fol-lowed by internal oxidation of the atomized powder.5.1.1 Silver-tin oxide materials are used in various tempersdependent on the attachment and fabrication process utilized.1This guide is under the jurisdiction of AS

United States15.1.2 For purposes of attachment or device performance,silver-tin oxide contact material is often produced with aconductive or brazable layer of material or backing. Incorpo-ration of such a layer is often an integral part o

19、f the silver-tinoxide manufacturing process.5.1.3 Silver-tin oxide materials vary from full theoreticaldensity to about 95 % of theoretical density depending on thespecific manufacturing period.5.1.4 The tin-oxide particle size and uniformity in combi-nation with the contact density and chemical com

20、position (see6.2) determine the performance characteristics of the electricalcontacts in service. It may be of importance to specify themicrostructure, in which case, it is recommended that photo-graphs of acceptable microstructures be agreed upon betweenthe producer and the user, as well as photogr

21、aphs illustratingunacceptable type of microstructures. It is highly recom-mended that these attributes be considered in making selectionor replacement decisions and qualification tests be performedby the user or the purchaser including functional electrical testsfor new or altered selections and man

22、ufacturing sources.5.2 No substantive change shall be made in the manufac-turing technique of the silver-tin oxide contact material withoutnotification to and approval by the user.6. Chemical Composition6.1 Material produced under this guide shall meet thecomposition of silver and tin oxide agreed u

23、pon by the vendorand the user. Popular compositions and suggested tolerancesare given in Table 1. In the case of material supplied with adistinct brazable or conductive backing, such backing shall notbe considered to be included in the silver-tin oxide materialcomposition.6.2 Additives and Impuritie

24、s:6.2.1 A wide variety of chemical additives have been madeto silver-tin oxide materials for processing and performancepurposes. The merits of these additions remain a point ofcontention. Any component over 0.1 % (for example) isdeemed to be an additive and is expected to be controlled in itsamount

25、by the producer. Additionally, various impurities mayremain in these materials from raw materials or processingwhich have been found to be either detrimental or helpfuldepending on the residual level and the individual application.Chemical requirements for such elements and analytical meth-ods to be

26、 employed shall be mutually agreed upon between theproducer and the user.6.2.2 It should be noted that the operating characteristics ofsilver-tin oxide materials with different additives may be verydifferent. Certain operating characteristics such as weldingresistance, electrical erosion, and others

27、 may improve ordegrade as a result of additives. As a result of differences inthese materials due to both compositional and processingdifferences, no substitutions in material should be made with-out operational testing of new materials.6.3 No substantive change shall be made to additives orimpuriti

28、es without notification to and approval by the user.7. Other Properties7.1 Mechanical properties of silver-tin oxide contact mate-rials are very dependent on the manufacturing method. For thisreason, only guideline properties for some discrete part con-tacts of popular silver-tin oxide compositions

29、in the annealedstate are given.7.1.1 Properties in coined, repressed, headed, or other stateswill vary considerably due to the effects of cold working.Additives and oxidation conditions may also alter these prop-erties.7.1.2 Guideline properties are given in Table 2 for silver-tinoxide compositions

30、in wire form.7.2 Specific properties and tolerances shall be establishedand agreed to between the producer and user for any particularcommercial designation of silver-tin oxide material and temperrequired.8. Sampling and Inspection8.1 Material or parts furnished under this guide shall beinspected by

31、 the producer listed as follows. Results of suchinspection shall conform to values agreed to between theproducer and user.8.1.1 Strip and wire procured to temper shall be sampledand tested in accordance with Specification B476 (whenspecified and applicable).8.1.1.1 Such other properties as are requi

32、red to verify thequality of the material produced under this guide.8.1.2 Discrete contact parts produced under this guide shallbe sampled and tested on a lot basis. However, for the purposeof this guideline, a lot is defined in 3.1.1.8.1.2.1 For dimensional conformance.8.1.2.2 Other properties as ar

33、e required to verify the qualityof the material produced under this guide.9. Rejection and Rehearing9.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements of thisguide may be rejected. Rejection should be reported to theproducer or supplier promptly within 30 days of receipt of theshipment and in wr

34、iting. When results of the tests are notsatisfactory, the producer or supplier may make claim for arehearing.10.
