39、d, only aluminum alloy con-forming to the requirements of Specification B 179 or produc-ers foundry scrap (identified as being made from alloyconforming to Specification B 179) shall be used in theremelting furnace from which molten metal is taken forpouring directly into castings. Additions of smal
40、l amounts ofmodifiers and grain refining elements or alloys are permitted.5.1.1 Pure materials, recycled materials, and master alloysand material not conforming to Specification B 179 may beused to make alloys conforming to this specification, providedchemical analysis can be taken and adjusted to c
41、onform toTable 1 prior to pouring any castings.6. Manufacture6.1 The producer of the die castings shall supply castingsthat can be laid out and machined to the final dimensions(within the permissible variations specified on the blueprints ordrawings), except when the die is furnished by the purchase
42、r.7. Quality Assurance7.1 Responsibility for InspectionWhen specified in thecontract or purchase order, the producer or supplier is respon-sible for the performance of all inspection and test require-ments specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in thecontract or order, the producer or suppl
43、ier may use his own orany other suitable facilities for the performance of the inspec-tion and test requirements specified herein, unless disapprovedby the purchaser. The purchaser shall have the right to performany of the inspections and tests set forth in this specification.Quality assurance stand
44、ards shall be agreed upon between theproducer or supplier and purchaser at the time a contract ororder is placed.7.2 Lot DefinitionAn inspection lot shall be defined asfollows:7.2.1 An inspection lot shall consist of the production fromeach die or compound die on each machine for each 24 hduring the
45、 first week of normal operation and the productionfor each 48 h thereafter of normal operation. Any significantchange in the machine, composition, die or continuity ofoperation shall be considered as the start of a new lot. Diecastings inspected by this method shall be so marked orhandled during the
46、 finishing operations as not to lose theiridentity.7.2.2 Each die casting of a randomly selected sample shallbe examined to determine conformance to the requirementswith respect to general quality, dimensions, and identificationmarking. The producer or supplier may use a system ofstatistical quality
47、 control for such examinations.7.3 All testing shall be performed in accordance to appli-cable ASTM test methods.8. Chemical Composition8.1 LimitsThe diecastings shall conform to the require-ments as to chemical composition prescribed in Table 1.Conformance shall be determined by the producer by ana
48、lyzingsamples taken at the time castings are made. If the producer hasdetermined the chemical composition of the metal during thecourse of manufacture, he shall not be required to sample andanalyze the finished product.8.1.1 When a chemical analysis is required with a shipment,it shall be called for
49、 in the contract or purchase order.8.1.2 If the producers or suppliers method of compositioncontrol is acceptable, sampling for chemical analysis may bewaived at the discretion of the purchaser.8.2 Number of SamplesWhen required, samples for deter-mination of chemical composition shall be taken to representthe following:8.2.1 A sample shall be taken from each of two representa-tive castings selected from each defined lot (see 7.2.1).8.3 Methods of SamplingSamples from die castings fordetermination of chemical composition shall be taken inaccordance with one of the following m
