、hall conform to the requirements of Table 1as determined by chemical analysis by the producer on samplestaken at his plant (see Section 9).7. Size and Shape7.1 CGG alloy may be ordered as either jumbos, blocks, orslabs.7.1.1 CGG alloy metal may be ordered in jumbos or blocks,as specified in Specific

、ation B 897.7.1.2 Jumboslarge castings of zinc or zinc alloy designedfor handling by mechanical equipment. A jumbo usuallyweighs about 2400 lb (1087 kg). Jumbo shapes may vary, depending on the producers practice, and may be referred to asstrip jumbos or as block jumbos. The nominal weight, dimen-sio

、ns, and location of holes or openings shall be as agreed uponbetween the producer and the customer.7.1.3 Slabssmaller castings of zinc or zinc alloy designedfor manual handling, but often handled by mechanical equip-ment.Aslab usually weighs about 55 lb (25 kg) but may weighanywhere from 40 to 60 lb

、 (18 to 27 kg). Slabs are usuallyshipped in strapped bundles weighing about 2200 lb (onemetric ton). Other bundle weights may be as agreed uponbetween the producer and the customer.7.1.4 Other shapes and sizes as may be agreed uponbetween the producer and the customer may be cast to thechemical requ

A sample shall be taken at least every 18 metric tons(18 000 kg). Unless otherwise agreed upon between the pro-ducer and the customer, chemical analyses shall be de

、terminedfrom these samples (see Section 6).9.2 Sampling of SlabsWhen CGG alloy slabs must besampled, sampling shall be by drilling or sawing.9.2.1 Selection of PortionA portion representative of thelot shall be selected at random for the sample. From lotscontaining at least 60 000 lb (27 200 kg), on

、e slab shall betaken from every 10 000 lb (4530 kg). For smaller lots, fiveslabs shall be taken.9.2.2 Preparation of SampleEach slab shall be cleanedthoroughly to rid the surface of extraneous material and drilledor sawed without lubricant in accordance with 9.2.3 or 9.2.4.Adventitious iron with whi

、ch the sample may have beencontaminated from the drill or the saw shall be removed witha strong magnet.9.2.3 DrillingTwo holes shall be drilled, preferably fromthe bottom or brand side of each slab, at two points locatedalong the one diagonal of the slab so that each point is halfwaybetween the cent

、er and one extremity of the diagonal. If twoholes do not yield a sample weighing at least 1012 oz (300 g),a third hole shall be drilled at the center of each slab. Each holeshall be bored completely through the slab, care being taken toavoid starting the drill in a depression, and to adjust the feed

、 togive drillings 0.010 to 0.020 in. (0.25 to 0.51 mm) in thickness. The drill shall preferably be one twisted from flat stock. Thedrill diameter shall be516 in. (8 mm). All the drillings shalleither be cut with clean shears or broken into pieces of not over12 in. (13 mm) in length and mixed thorough

、ly.9.2.4 SawingTwo cuts shall be made completely acrossand through the slab from one long side to another with aheat-treated, high-speed saw. Each cut shall be sufficient togive a total sample weight of at least 1012 oz (300 g), and allcuttings from all the slabs shall be mixed thoroughly.9.2.5 Stor

、ageThe sample shall be split into three equalparts, each of which shall be placed in a sealed package, onefor the producer, one for the customer and, if necessary, one fora referee. Tight leakproof paper sample envelopes or cardboardcartons shall be used to hold the samples.9.3 Sampling of jumbosRep

、resentative samples cannot beobtained from large castings (except for remelting the entireingot in a separate furnace and then taking a sample) becauseof the potential for segregation. Therefore, alloy cast in thejumbo form shall be sampled from the pour.9.4 Matters of sampling and sample preparatio

、n not coveredby this specification shall be in accordance with Practice E88.9.5 Samples held at the producers plant shall be retainedfor not less than 90 days.9.6 Unless otherwise provided in this section, proceduresfor sampling, storing, and exchange of samples shall be asagreed upon between the pr

、oducer and the customer.10. Methods of Chemical Analyses10.1 The chemical compositions in Table 1 shall be deter-mined by the producer, who shall use methods of analysispublished in Test Methods E 536 or any spectrographic meth-ods that may be the usual practice of the producer. In case ofdispute, t

、he referee shall use only those methods of analysispublished in Test Methods E 536 unless another method hasbeen agreed upon between the producer and the customer.10.1.1 Samples obtained during casting (9.1) shall be ana-lyzed individually and the average of the individual determi-nations for the sa

、mples from the lot shall be reported as theanalysis of the lot. The average shall conform to the chemicalrequirements of Table 1.10.1.2 Samples obtained by drilling or sawing shall beanalyzed and reported individually for each lot. Each analysisshall conform to the chemical requirements of Table 1.1

、0.2 The customer may request that his samples accompanythe shipment or be transmitted by other means. He may, at hisdiscretion, analyze such samples. In the case of a dispute, theB852072producer shall send the sample retained for referee to a refereeagreed upon between the producer and the customer

、(see14.1.1).11. Rejection and Rehearing11.1 CGG alloy supplied under this specification mustsatisfy the chemical requirements of Table 1. The customermay reject any material that does not conform to theserequirements and, if rejected, the producer shall replace it. Thefull weight of the shipment sha

、ll be returned to the producerunless other provisions are agreed upon between the producerand the customer.12. Certification12.1 A certificate shall be provided by the producer with thefollowing information:12.1.1 The weight of the shipment,12.1.2 The chemical composition of each production lot orpa

、rtial lot within the shipment,12.1.3 A statement that the material was produced, sampledand analyzed in accordance with this specification, and12.1.4 A statement that the requirements of this specifica-tion have been met.13. Claims13.1 Claims shall be made in writing to the producer withinthirty (30

、) days of receipt of material at the customers plant. If the claim is based on the results of the customers chemicalanalyses, those results shall be included in the claim.13.2 When CGG alloy satisfies the chemical and physicalrequirements of this specification, it shall not be condemnedfor defects in

、 the coating of zinc-coated products in which itwas used.14. Investigation of Claims14.1 If a claim has been made in accord with Section 13, theproducer shall respond to the customer within one week ofreceipt of the claim. The producer shall at that time proposeeither to satisfy the claim or to send

、 his representative to thecustomers plant within one week for investigation and settle-ment of the claim.14.1.1 If a claim is made that the chemical analysesrequirements of Table 1 have not been met, the parties mayelect to send that portion of the sample retained by the producerfor referee purposes

、 to a referee agreed upon between theproducer and the customer. The determination of the refereeshall be binding.14.1.2 If a claim is made that physical defects exist, theproducers representative shall inspect the pieces that areclaimed to be defective. If after such inspection agreementcannot be re
