Classification4.1 Type DesignationThe type designation uses the fol-lowing symbols to properly identify the material:4.1.1 Alloy CompositionThe compositi

15、on is identified bya two or four-letter symbol and a number. The letters typicallyindicate the chemical symbol for the critical element(s) in thewire and the number indicates the nominal percentage, byweight, of the primary element in the wire (see Table 1).5. Ordering Information5.1 Orders for mate

16、rial under this specification indicate thefollowing information, as required, to adequately describe thedesired material.5.1.1 Type designation (see 4.1),5.1.2 Detailed requirements for special forms,5.1.3 Dimensions of wire (see 9.2),5.1.4 Unit weight,5.1.5 Packaging (see Section 17),5.1.6 Marking

17、(see Section 16),5.1.7 ASTM Specification number and issue, marked on (a)purchase order and (b) package or spool, and5.1.8 Special requirements, as agreed upon between sup-plier and purchaser.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 The producer shall have each lot of wire as uniform inquality as practicable

18、 and of satisfactory appearance in accor-dance with best industrial practices.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The wire shall conform to the requirements prescribedin Table 1.7.2 The manufacturer shall perform chemical analyses asdirected in Test Methods E 536 or by other methods of at leastequal accuracy

19、 to confirm that the wire conforms to therequirements of composition. In case of dispute, analysis byTest Methods E 536 shall be accepted. Analysis of alloy wiresnot covered by Test Methods E 536 shall be agreed uponbetween the manufacturer and the purchaser.NOTE 1By mutual agreement between supplie

20、r and purchaser, analy-sis may be required and limits established for elements or compounds notspecified in Table 1.8. Dimensions and Unit Weight8.1 The dimensions and unit weight of wire are specified in5.1.3 and 5.1.4. The tolerance on specified outside diametershall be 65%or60.002 in. (0.05 mm),

21、whichever is greater.9. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 The wire shall be clean and free of corrosion, adheringforeign material, scale, seams, nicks, burrs, and other defectswhich would interfere with the operation of thermal sprayingequipment. The wire shall uncoil readily and be free of bend

22、sor kinks that would prevent its passage through the thermalspray gun.9.2 The wire shall be a continuous length per spool, coil, ordrum. Splices or welds are permitted, provided that they do notinterfere with the thermal spray equipment or coating process.9.3 The starting end of each coil shall be t

23、agged to indicatewinding direction and to be readily identifiable with ASTMdesignation.10. Sampling10.1 Sampling methodology should ensure that the sampleselected for testing is representative of the material. Themethod for sampling consists of one of the following methods:10.1.1 Analysis may be per

24、formed on finished wire, onmaterial selected when the wire is cast, or on samples takenfrom semi-finished wire.10.1.1.1 If the analysis is performed on finished wire, thefrequency of sampling for determination of chemical compo-sition shall be in accordance with Table 2. 33、 performed on material selectedwhile the wire is being cast, at least one sample shall beselected for each source of molten metal.10.1.1.3 If the analysis is performed on samples taken fromsemi-finished product, at least one sample shall be analyzed foreach 4500 kg (10 000 lb) or fraction thereof.10

34、.2 The manufacturer shall determine the diameter of thewire at the end and the beginning of each continuous wire in aproduction pack, coil, or spool of wire. Each determinationshall be the result of at least three measurements.10.3 The buyer reserves the right to reject wire that, duringuse, is foun

35、d to be defective.11. Specimen Preparation11.1 Each sample of wire is prepared in accordance withSection 10 as applicable.12. Test Methods12.1 Visual and Dimensional Examination:12.1.1 The wire must be examined to verify that thedimensions, unit weight, and workmanship are in accordancewith the appl

36、icable requirements.12.2 Alloy CompositionIn case of dispute, the chemicalanalysis is made in accordance with Test Methods E46, E47(for tin only) Method E51, E87, and E 536.13. Inspection13.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, thepurchaser shall be furnished certification that samples

37、 repre-senting each lot have been tested or inspected as directed in thisspecification and the requirements have been met. Whenspecified in the purchase order to contract, a report of the testresults shall be furnished.13.2 An inspection lot shall be defined as a collection ofmaterial of the same ki

38、nd that has been produced to the samespecification from the same heat by a single supplier at onetime under essentially identical conditions and that are submit-ted for acceptance or retest as a group.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specifica

39、tion may be rejected. Rejection must be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.15. Certification15.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract aproducers certif

40、ication must be furnished to the purchaser thatthe material was manufactured, sampled, tested, and inspectedin accordance with this specification and has been found tomeet the requirements. When specified in the purchase order orcontract, a report of the test results must be furnished.16. Product Ma

41、rking16.1 Each spool or container must be marked to show thespecification number, type designation, dimensions, and unitweight of wire or other form and lot number. The producersname or trademark must be marked on the spool or container.17. Packaging and Package Marking17.1 The material shall be sep

42、arated by size and preparedfor shipment in such a matter as to ensure acceptance bycommon carrier and to afford protection from the normalhazards of transport.17.2 Packaging materials for electric arc spray wire shall benonconductive.17.3 Size(s) of Packaging:17.3.1 Coil inside diameter may range fr

43、om 30 to 56 cm (12to 22 in.).17.3.2 Coil weight shall be approximately 20 to 25 kg (45 to55 lb).17.3.3 Production pack drums shall measure approximately56 cm (22 in.) in diameter and approximately 81 cm (32 in.)high. Each drum shall contain a continuous wire, which iscoiled around a central core.17.

44、3.4 Net weight per drum shall be 205 to 250 kg (450 to550 lb).17.3.5 When special preservation, packaging and packingrequirements are agreed upon between purchaser and supplier,marking for shipment of such material must be in accordancewith Fed. Std. No. 123 for civil agencies and MIL-STD-129 formil

45、itary agencies.17.4 Each shipping unit shall be legibly marked with thepurchase order number, size, gross, tare, net weights, and thename of the supplier.
