7、als3. Significance and Use3.1 This test method provides a means for measuring thetemperature of freshly mixed concrete. The measured tempera-ture represents the temperature at the time of testing and maynot be an indication of the temperature of the freshly mixedconcrete at a later time. It may be u
8、sed to verify conformanceto a specified requirement for temperature of concrete.3.2 Concrete containing aggregate of a nominal maximumsize greater than 75 mm 3 in. may require up to 20 min for thetransfer of heat from aggregate to mortar. (See ACI Committee207.1R Report.4)4. Apparatus4.1 Container,
9、shall be large enough to provide at least 75mm 3 in. of concrete in all directions around the sensor of thetemperature measuring device; concrete cover must also be atleast three times the nominal maximum size of the coarseaggregate.4.2 Temperature Measuring Device, shall be capable ofaccurately mea
10、suring the temperature of the freshly mixedconcrete to 6 0.5 C 61 F throughout a range of 0 to 50 C30 to 120 F. The design of the temperature measuringdevice shall be such that it allows 75 mm 3 in. or moreimmersion during operation.4.3 Partial immersion liquid-in-glass thermometers (andpossibly oth
11、er types) shall have a permanent mark to which thedevice must be immersed without applying a correction factor.4.4 Reference Temperature Measuring Device, shall bereadable and accurate to 6 0.2 C 0.5 F at the verificationpoints in 5.1. A certificate or report that verifies the accuracyshall be avail
12、able in the laboratory for review. Accuracy ofliquid-in-glass reference temperature measuring devices shallbe verified once. Verification of direct-reading resistance ref-erence temperature measuring devices shall be performedevery twelve months. The certificate or report shall providedocumentation
13、that the reference standard used in the verifi-cation is traceable to the National Institute of Standards andTechnology (NIST).5. Verification of the Accuracy of TemperatureMeasuring Devices5.1 The accuracy of each temperature measuring deviceused for determining the temperature of freshly mixed con
14、creteshall be verified annually, or whenever there is a question ofaccuracy. 18、ng device to the temperature measuring device at twotemperatures at least 15 C 30 F apart.5.2 Verification of the accuracy of the temperature measur-ing devices may be made in oil or other suitable bath liquidshaving uniform density if provision is made to:5.2.1 Maintain the bath temperature constan
19、t within 0.2 C0.5 F during the verification process.5.2.2 Continuously circulate the bath liquid to provide auniform temperature throughout the bath.5.2.3 Suspend the temperature measuring devices in such amanner that the devices are not contacting the sides or bottomof the bath container during ver
20、ification.5.3 Place both the temperature and reference temperaturemeasuring devices in the bath for at least 5 min before readingtemperatures at the test points specified in 5.1.5.4 Prior to reading the temperature measuring devices, ifthe temperature in the bath has been reduced, slightly tapthermo
21、meters containing liquid to avoid adhesion of the liquidto the glass.5.5 Read and record the temperature of both the referencetemperature measuring device and the temperature measuringdevice. Reject the temperature measuring device if the differ-ence in readings exceeds 0.5 C 1 F at either test poin
22、t. If theindicator of the rejected temperature measuring device isadjustable, reverification is permitted after adjustment. Inaddition to the temperature readings, record the identificationnumbers of both devices used, the date verified, and the nameof individual performing the verification.6. Sampl
23、ing Concrete6.1 It is acceptable to measure the temperature of freshlymixed concrete in either the transporting equipment or theforms after discharge provided the sensor of the temperaturemeasuring device has at least 75 mm 3 in. of concrete coverin all directions.6.2 If the transporting equipment o
24、r placement forms are notused as the container, a sample shall be prepared as follows:6.2.1 Immediately, prior to sampling the freshly mixedconcrete, dampen (with water) the sample container.6.2.2 Sample the freshly mixed concrete in accordance withPractice C172, except that composite samples are no
25、t requiredif the only purpose for obtaining the sample is to determinetemperature.6.2.3 Place the freshly mixed concrete into the container.7. Procedure7.1 Position the temperature measuring device so that theend of the temperature sensing portion is submerged a mini-mum of 75 mm 3 in. into the fres
26、hly mixed concrete. Closethe void left by the placement by gently pressing the concretearound the temperature measuring device at the surface of theconcrete to prevent ambient air temperature from affecting thereading.7.2 Leave the temperature measuring device in the freshlymixed concrete for at lea
27、st 2 min but not more than 5 min, thenread and record the temperature to the nearest 0.5 C 1 F. Donot remove the device from the concrete when reading thetemperature.8. Report8.1 Report the measured temperature of the freshly mixedconcrete to the nearest 0.5 C 1 F.9. Precision and Bias9.1 The single
28、 operator standard deviation for measurementof concrete temperature has been found to be 0.5 F.5Therefore, results of two properly conducted tests by the sameoperator on the same sample of material should not differ bymore than 1.3 F.59.2 The multi-operator standard deviation for the measure-ment of
29、 concrete temperature on the same sample has beenfound to be 0.7 F.5Therefore, two tests properly conducted bydifferent operators but on the same material should not differby more than 1.9 F.59.3 The precision values given were derived from an inter-laboratory study using 11 operators on two concret
