Significance and Use4.1 This

16、 practice provides the basic minimum criteria foruse in evaluating the qualifications of testing agencies formasonry materials. The criteria may be supplemented by morespecific criteria and requirements. It can be used as a guide forinternal audits by individual users.4.2 The intent of this practice

17、 is to provide a consensus basisfor evaluating a testing agency, with respect to that agencyscapability to objectively and competently provide the specificservices needed by the user.4.3 This practice may be used as a basis for accreditation.5. Responsibilities and Duties5.1 The agency shall ensure

18、that only tests for which it isadequately equipped and staffed are performed.5.2 The agency shall ensure that personnel perform onlytests for which they are adequately trained, qualified, andcertified in accordance with applicable specifications.5.3 The agency shall ensure that all equipment is prop

19、erlymaintained in good operating condition and is calibrated orverified as applicable.5.4 The agency shall perform all testing in accordance withappropriate standards and quality control criteria. Documentsunique to the user shall be furnished to the agency.6. General Capabilities6.1 Laboratory Test

20、ingThe laboratory testing services ofthe masonry materials testing agency shall include some or allof the following capabilities:6.1.1 Testing of masonry units in the laboratory,6.1.2 Testing of masonry mortars in the laboratory, and6.1.3 Testing of aggregates for compliance with specifica-tion requ

21、irements.NOTE 1Since the requirements for construction control can vary fromproject to project depending upon the nature of the type, location, andintended use of the masonry in the project, the capability of the agency fortesting should be that necessary to accomplish construction control for theus

22、ers specific project or special requirements.7. Personnel Qualifications7.1 Management and SupervisionAll relevant testing ser-vices shall be provided under the Full-Time technical directionof a registered professional Engineer, with at least 5 years ofexperience in inspecting and testing masonry ma

23、terials or aperson of equivalent science-oriented education and experi-ence.7.1.1 It is satisfactory for a person to fill one or more of thelevels of management in an agency, Manager, Supervisor, orTechnician positions in accordance with 7 and 7.2 providingthat person is qualified for each position.

24、7.2 Supervising Laboratory TechnicianThe supervisinglaboratory technician shall have at least five years experienceperforming tests on materials, with at least two years testingmasonry materials. This person shall be able to demonstrate,either by oral or written examination, or both, the ability top

25、erform the tests normally required in the manner stipulatedunder ASTM or other governing procedures and shall becapable of evaluating the test results in terms of specificationcompliance.8. Quality System Criteria8.1 The agency shall establish and implement a qualitysystem that meets the criteria in

26、 subsections 8.2 to 8.14.8.2 Quality System Manual (QSM)The agency shall es-tablish and maintain a QSM that conforms to the requirementsin Section 9. Each document in the QSM shall indicate itspreparation date. If a document is revised, the date of revisionshall be indicated on the document. The QSM

27、 shall beavailable for use by laboratory staff.8.3 Quality System ManagementThe agency shall desig-nate a person(s) having responsibility for the quality systemand its implementation. The quality manager ensures thatactivities are being conducted by agency staff in the mannerspecified in the agencys

28、 quality system manual and hasresponsibility for maintaining and revising it. This individu-al(s) shall have direct access to top management (see Note 2).NOTE 2This individual(s) may have other responsibilities (forexample, laboratory manager).8.4 Laboratory Procedure ManualA written laboratoryproce

29、dure manual outlining the method or inspection proce-dure for each test or service performed by the laboratory.NOTE 3Inspection and testing procedures may reference publishedstandards.8.5 EquipmentThe agency shall calibrate or verify allsignificant testing equipment associated with tests covered byt

30、he scope of this standard which the agency performs. As aminimum, the equipment listed in 8.5.2 shall be included if itis associated with tests performed by the agency. Applicableequipment shall be calibrated or verified at the intervalsspecified in the agencys QSM. The intervals specified in theQSM

31、 shall be no greater than those indicated in 8.5.2 (see Note4). Newly acquired equipment without manufacturers certifi-cation and equipment that has not been calibrated or verifiedbecause it has been removed from service shall be calibrated orverified before being placed in service. The agency shall

32、 havedetailed written procedures for all in-house calibration andverification activities not addressed in standards. These proce-dures shall indicate the equipment required to perform thecalibration or verification. In addition to standard test methodrequirements, the conditions listed in 8.5.2 shal

33、l be met.8.5.1 Calibration and Verification RecordsThe agencyshall maintain calibration and verification records for allequipment specified in the QSM. Such records shall include:8.5.1.1 Description of the equipment calibrated or verified,including identification of the specific piece of equipmentus

34、ing the equipment serial number or other unique identifyingdesignator provided by the agency (see Note 5),C1093 13a128.5.1.2 Date the work was done,8.5.1.3 Identification of individual performing work,8.5.1.4 Identification of calibration or verification procedureused,8.5.1.5 The previous calibratio

35、n or verification date andnext due date,8.5.1.6 Identification of any calibration or verification de-vice used, and8.5.1.7 Specific criteria required for each piece of equip-ment listed in 8.5.2.8.5.2 Masonry Test Equipment:8.5.2.1 Balances and WeightsCalibrate balances andweights at intervals not e

36、xceeding 12 months. Record shallinclude test points and corresponding percentage of error.8.5.2.2 Cube Molds and TampersVerify cube molds andtampers for conformance to the design and dimensional re-quirements of Test Method C109/C109M. Verification shall beperformed at intervals not exceeding 30 mon

37、ths.8.5.2.3 Compression Test MachineCompression test ma-chine shall conform to the applicable requirements of TestMethods C67, C109/C109M,orC140 and have a capacity,loading range, and the appropriate heads and bearing plates forthe specimens tested. Calibrate compression testing machinesin accordanc

38、e with Practices E4. Record shall include testpoints and corresponding percentage of error. Calibration shallbe performed at intervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.4 Flexural Bond ApparatusFlexural bond apparatusshall conform to the applicable requirements of Test MethodC1072. Calibrate the load me

39、asuring apparatus in accordancewith Practices E4. Record shall include test points and corre-sponding percentage of error. Calibration shall be performed atintervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.5 Mechanical ShakersVerify the period of mechani-cal agitation of mechanical shakers for adequacy of sie

40、ving asdescribed in Test Method C136. Record shall include length oftime for the proper efficiency of sieving. Verification shall beperformed at intervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.6 Mixers (for Specification C270)Inspect and verifymixers for conformance to the requirements of Practice C305.Veri

41、fication shall be performed at intervals not exceeding 30months.8.5.2.7 Cylindrical MoldsCylindrical molds shall complywith the requirements of Specification C470/C470M. Recordshall include dimensions and results of water-tightness test.Verification shall be performed at intervals not exceeding 12mo

42、nths.8.5.2.8 OvensVerify oven settings with a verified refer-ence temperature measuring device. Record shall include ovensettings, temperature reading at each oven setting, and adjust-ments if necessary. Verification shall be performed at intervalsnot exceeding twelve months.8.5.2.9 Sieve AccuracyVe

43、rify sieve accuracy at least an-nually on each sieve used for sieve analysis (Test MethodsC117 and C136). Use any of the following methods ofverification:Method (1) Verification of each sieve in accordance with theprocedures prescribed in the Annex of Specification E11.Method (2) A comparison of the

44、 results of a split samplesieved on different sieve sets. Results shall be verified that asingle operator precision is within the acceptable range of tworesults stated in the test method.Method (3) Participation in a sieve analysis test in anaggregate proficiency sample program. Results shall be ver

45、i-fied for multi-laboratory precision to be within the acceptablerange of two results stated in the test method.Each method of sieve verification shall include an inspectionof the sieve cloth for punctures or obvious defects.8.5.2.10 Temperature Measuring DeviceVerify tempera-ture measuring devices

46、using a NIST-traceable reference tem-perature measuring device. Record shall include test points andreadings at test points. Verification shall be performed atintervals not exceeding twelve months.8.5.2.11 TimersVerify timers for accuracy. Record shallinclude test points, readings at test points. Ve

47、rification shall beperformed at intervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.12 Water RetentionVerify water retention apparatusfor conformance to the applicable requirements of Test MethodC1506. Verification shall be performed at intervals not exceed-ing 30 months.8.5.2.13 Air Content MeasureVerify air c

48、ontent measurefollowing the procedures described in Test Method C185.Verification shall be performed at intervals not exceeding 30months.8.5.2.14 Flow TableVerify flow table using the calibrationmaterial described in Specification C230/C230M. Verificationshall be performed at intervals not exceeding

49、 30 months, andwhen table is moved.8.5.2.15 Cone PenetrometerVerify cone penetrometer forthe applicable requirements of Test Method C780. Record shallinclude measured dimensions and masses. Verification shall beperformed at intervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.16 Slump Cone and Tamping RodVerify slump coneand tamping rod for the applicable requirements of TestMethod C143/C143M. Record shall include measured dimen-sions. Verification shall be performed at intervals not exceed-ing 12 months.8.5.2.17 Pressure MeterCalibrate pressure mete
