Scope1.1 This specification covers machine made solid uncoredcarbon brick produced from either metallurgical or petroleumcalcined coke, baked
3、to a minimum 1850F (1010C), andsuitable for use in masonry construction which will be exposedto various chemicals. These units are designed primarily forindustries using hydrofluoric acid, fluoride salts, and highconcentrations of alkalies such as sodium and potassiumhydroxide. Carbon brick are norm
4、ally used with carbon filledchemical-resistant mortars.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Significance and Use4.1 The chemical-resistant carbon brick meeting this speci-fication is intended for use in acid and alkaline service atvarying temperatures. Physical stress imposed on the brickattributable to thermal shock or pressure di
8、fferential may ormay not be a consideration. The corrosion resistance andstructural integrity of the brick are dependent on the type andpurity of the carbon and binder used when the brick ismanufactured.4.2 The performance of the brick as tested in Test MethodsC1106 or other tests, or other qualifyi
9、ng data, should bereviewed between the purchaser and the seller.5. Sampling5.1 The brick shall be sampled in accordance with TestMethods C67.6. Chemical Resistance6.1 Carbon brick are inherently non-wetting and highlyresistant to many acids, alkalies, salts, and solvents andcombinations of these che
10、micals at varying temperatures andconcentrations.6.2 The carbon brick shall be tested in accordance with TestMethods C1106 using a chemical and thermal environment.6.3 To comply with this specification, the carbon brick shallexhibit chemical resistance to those chemical media stated inTable 1 when c
11、arried out at ambient temperature in accordancewith Test Methods C1106.7. Physical Properties7.1 The carbon brick shall comply with the values shown inTable 2 for compressive strength, modulus of rupture, andwater absorption when tested according to Test MethodsC1106.7.2 The carbon brick shall have
12、a maximum ash content of8% when tested in accordance with Test Method C561.8. Sizes8.1 The sizes and tolerances of brick shall be as specified bythe purchaser. The measurement of sizes shall be in accordancewith Test Method C67, with the maximum permissible varia-tion in dimensions of individual uni
