3、ler-compactedconcrete specimens and covers determination of the relativebond between layers of roller-compacted concrete or otherhardened concrete in multiple-lift forms of construction. It isapplicable to all types of layered concrete where the total depthis sufficient to meet the minimum specimen

4、length and diam-eter requirements of this test method. This test method is notintended to provide tensile strength results of the materialtested.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equ

5、ivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.3 The text of this standard references notes and footnotes,which provide explanatory material. Significance and Use4.1 This test method is used to measure the effectiveness ofbonding roller-compacted concrete to other roller-compactedconcrete or other hardened cementitious mixtures by using apoint load test at the joint. Bond strength is determined usingdri

11、lled cores or cast cylindrical specimens in which the bondsurface is essentially normal to the longitudinal axis at approxi-mately the mid-length of the specimen.Asplitting tensile stressnormal to the bond surface is produced by applying a pointload at the joint.4.2 This test method may be used eith

12、er for laboratoryinvestigation by casting individual composite cylinders or bycoring prototype structures or assemblies (Test Method C42/C42M).5. Apparatus5.1 Testing MachineThe testing machine shall conform tothe requirements of Test Method C39/C39M.5.2 Testing ApparatusThe testing apparatus shall

13、be con-structed of steel and allow the testing of both 100 and 150-mm4 and 6-in. diameter specimens. The test schematic is given inFig. 1. The testing apparatus shall permit the positioning of aspecimen such that the joint of the bonded surfaces is oriented1This test method is under the jurisdiction

17、iameter specimens.Anvil rods (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3) shall have a hardness of not lessthan 55 HRC (Rockwell hardness number of 55 on the C scale)and shall be plane on the bearing surfaces to within 60.025mm 0.001 in. The alignment post shall ensure that the anvilrods are kept parallel to each other in t

18、he vertical plane. Thesystem is easily adaptable to most testing machines.6. Test Specimens6.1 Test specimens shall be cast cylinders or cores. Cylin-ders shall be cast in accordance with Practice C1176/C1176M,Practice C1435/C1435M, or Test Method D1557 and be 100 or150 mm 4 or 6 in. in diameter. Co

19、res shall be obtained inaccordance with Practice C42/C42M and be 100 or 150 mm 4or 6 in in diameter. Cut specimen to ensure that the plane bestdescribing the bond surface is oriented at 90 6 15 to the longaxes of the specimens.6.2 Cure molded test specimens in accordance with PracticeC192/C192M (lab

20、oratory specimens). Drilled cores shall bemoisture conditioned in accordance with Test Method C42/C42M.NOTE 1Test results are not affected significantly by specimen surfacesobtained with normal coring operations. The ends of cores need not betrimmed.NOTE 2Where the bond surface undulates grossly, th

21、at is, the surfacehas a local texture exceeding 15 mm 0.5 in. in amplitude, 150-mm 6-in.diameter cores are preferable. No information is available on the relativeresults of 150-mm 6-in. versus 100-mm 4-in. diameter specimens.7. Procedure7.1 MeasurementsDetermine the diameter of the testspecimens by

22、averaging three diameters measured on the bondsurface. Visually identify the bond surface by color, texture, ormaterial contrasts. Measure diameters to the nearest 0.25 mm0.01 in. with calipers, whenever possible, but at least to thenearest 2.5 mm 0.1 in. Determine the length of each sectionFIG. 1 S

Specimens must have a minimum length-to-diameterratio of 1.2 if the bond plane is at mid-length (within 65mm0.25 in.) of the specim

26、te average bearing of the bond surface, andmeasure the length from this line.NOTE 3Many drilled cores will not be smooth enough to justify themeasurement of diameters closer than to the nearest 2.5 mm 0.1 in.7.2 PositioningAssemble and position the apparatus inthe testing machine. Place the specimen

27、 on the bottom platewith the joint in contact with the anvil rods (see Fig. 1). Thelonger anvil rods (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3) and the longer alignmentpost (Fig. 5) are used to test 150-mm 6-in. diameter speci-mens. The shorter anvil rods (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3) and the shorteralignment post (Fig. 4) are used

28、 to test 100-mm 4-in.diameter specimens.7.2.1 Zero the load-indicating mechanism. Position thespecimen so that the bond surface is parallel to the upper andlower anvil rods (see Fig. 1). This is best accomplished bypositioning the specimen by hand while gently bringing the topanvil into contact with

29、 the specimen. Alternatively, the speci-men may be supported with modeling clay or pieces ofpolystyrene. Where the bond surface is irregular or undulating,align the anvil rods along the approximate average bearing ofthe bond surface. Bring the anvil rods in contact with the bondsurface at the contac

30、t point on the circumference of thespecimen.7.3 LoadingDo not preload the specimen. Apply the loadat a uniform rate within the range of 1 to 1.4 MPa/min 150 to200 psi/min until the specimen fails. Record the maximumload applied.8. Calculation8.1 Calculate the strength of the bond as follows:ftb5PD2N

37、ne of fracture occurpartially or totally within the concrete layers adjacent to thebond surface, the percentage of the total area subjected to thistype of failure versus the percentage area where failureoccurred at the bond surface; and9.1.7.4 Any unexpected features.10. Precision and Bias10.1 Preci

38、sionPrecision of this test method was calcu-lated from results published in Saucier,3which comparedtensile strength of bonds and unbonded concrete for fivemixtures of varying proportions. These data only representwithin laboratory data for a single laboratory. A report of thisanalysis is on file at

39、ASTM International Headquarters, asResearch Report RR:C09-1025.410.1.1 The single-laboratory single-batch standard devia-tion for splitting tensile strength of unbonded concrete coreshas been found to be 0.16 MPa 23 psi5in 95 % of the cases.Therefore, results of tests on two cores taken from the sam

40、ebatch of concrete should differ by no more than 0.44 MPa 64psi5in 95 % of cases.10.1.2 The single-laboratory single-batch standard devia-tion for splitting tensile bond strength of cores obtained from alayered specimen has been found to be 0.26 MPa 38 psi5in95 % of the cases. Therefore, results of

41、tests on two cores takenfrom the same batch of concrete should differ by no more than0.73 MPa 106 psi in 95 % of cases.10.2 BiasThis test method has no bias because there is nostandard material on which to estimate this property.11.
