、Designation: C 1261 07Standard Specification forFirebox Brick for Residential Fireplaces1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 1261; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A numbe
、r in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers brick intended for use as thelining in the fireboxes of residential fireplaces.1.2 Firebox brick are manufacture
、d from clay, fire clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances andsubjected to a heat treatment at elevated temperatures (firing). The heat treatment must develop a fired bond between theparticulate constituents to provide the strength and durabilityrequirements of this specification.
、NOTE 1Firebox brick are typically installed using ground fire claymortar or refractory mortar. Mortar joints are typically18 in. (3.2 mm)thick, just thick enough to accommodate dimensional variations in thefirebox brick.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. The
、 values given in parentheses are forinformation only.1.4 The text of this specification references notes andfootnotes that provide explanatory material. These notes andfootnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not beconsidered as requirements of this specification.2. Referenced Documen
