Scope1.1 This specification covers the type, physical properties,and dimensions of open-cell melamine foam intended for useas thermal a

3、nd sound-absorbing insulation for temperaturesfrom 40 to +350F (40 to +177C) in industrial environ-ments.1.2 Some uses of thermal insulation materials covered bythis specification are governed by building codes that addressfire performance.1.3 The use of an appropriate vapor retarder is required onc

4、old surface applications where water vapor condense andcause a decrease in thermal performance. Refer to PracticeC755 for selection of vapor retarders. Facings shall be agreedupon between the purchaser and the manufacturer or supplier.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas st

Ordering Information5.1 Purchase orders for melamine thermal insulation shallspecify any or all of the following:5.1.1 Title, number, and year of this specification.5.1.2 Type and grade designation (see 4.1).5.1.3 Length, width and thickness required (see Table 1).5.1.4 Tolera

23、 Jacket facing type.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 Typically a hydrocarbon blowing agent is used to foammelamine formaldehyde resins. The result is an open-cellmelamine foam. The blowing agent is drawn off in themanufacturing process and is not residual in the foam.6.2 Facing materials incorporated

24、 into the design of pipeinsulation or flat slab shall be agreed upon between thepurchaser and the manufacturer or seller. Physical Properties7.1 Melamine thermal insulation shall conform to the physi-cal requirements in Table 3, which shall constitute accept

26、anceor rejection values for this specification when tested by testmethods specified in Section 14.NOTE 1Data in Table 3 is for unfaced products; facings affect theproperties listed.NOTE 2Melamine foams are hydrophilic and will absorb water ormoisture.Any system exposed to water, moisture, high humid

27、ity or that isused on cold installations must be protected by a vapor retarder ormoisture retarder system.7.2 The sound-absorption results for unfaced melaminefoam shall conform to the performance requirements in Table4 of this specification.7.3 Do not use values stated in Tables 3 and 4 as designva

28、lues. It is the buyers responsibility to specify designrequirements and obtain supporting documentation from thematerial supplier.8. Inspection Requirements8.1 The physical requirements for density and thermalconductivity at 75F mean temperature (unless otherwiseagreed upon between the purchaser and

29、 the supplier) as listedin Table 3 are defined as inspection requirements (refer toPractice C390).8.2 All dimensional requirements, as described in Tables 1and 2, are defined as inspection requirements.8.3 All workmanship and appearance requirements, as de-scribed in Section 11, are defined as inspe

Qualification Requirements9.1 All physical requirements listed in Tables 3 and 4 thatare not considered inspection requirements are defined asqualification requirements (refer to Practice C390).9.2 For the purpose of initial material qualification, compli-ance with qualification requiremen

33、ts for each type of insulationshall be in accordance with Practice C390.9.3 Other properties, such as odor or corrosion, agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the manufacturer or supplier shallbe considered to comply with this specification.10. Dimensions and Permissible Variations10.1 Type I, Flat S

34、heetSheets shall be rectangular sectionsand shall be true to form and dimensions, the corners squareand the sides and edges parallel. Typical sizes are shown inTable 1. Other sizes as agreed upon between the purchaser andthe manufacturer or supplier shall be considered to complywith this specificati

35、on.10.2 Type II, Pipe and Tubing InsulationPipe insulationshall be fabricated in sizes to conform to Practice C585 or asagreed upon between the manufacturer and the user.10.3 Type III, Special ShapesDimensions of specialshapes shall be as decided upon between the manufacturer andthe user.10.4 Dimens

36、ional TolerancesThe insulation shall not dif-fer from the manufacturers standard dimensions by more thanthe tolerances listed in Table 2.11. Workmanship and Appearance11.1 Since several requirements for this material are noteasily defined by a numerical value but affect the workmanshipof the finishe

37、d job, the insulation shall be free of defects thatadversely affect the service quality. For example, blowholesand tears when occurring to an excessive degree beyond whatis agreed upon by the manufacturer and purchaser shall bejudged to adversely affect the service quality of the material.12. Sampli

38、ng12.1 Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order orcontract, sampling shall be in accordance with Practice C390.13. Test Methods13.1 Apparent Thermal ConductivityDetermine the ther-mal conductivity versus temperature relationship for the mate-rial using Test Methods C177, C335, C518 or C1363

39、asappropriate for the sample in conjunction with Practice C1045.for data analysis. For most specimens, Test Methods C177 andC518, are preferred. Test Method C177 Shall be used as thereferee in case of disputes.13.2 Sound Absorption CoeffcientsTest in accordancewith Test Method C423 using Type “A” mo

40、unting in accor-dance with Practice E795. The insulation shall have soundabsorption coefficient and NRC not less than that indicated inTable 4. This specification addresses the foam alone; coatingsand facings affect the properties listed.13.3 Oxygen IndexTest in accordance with Test MethodD2863.13.4
