Significance and Use3.1 This test method is intended to be used to determine theflow of hydraulic cement mortars, and of mortars containingcem
6、entitious materials other than hydraulic cements.3.2 While flow is not usually included in hydraulic cementspecifications, it is commonly used in standard tests thatrequire the mortar to have a water content that provides aspecified flow level.4. Apparatus4.1 Flow Table, Flow Mold, Conforming to the
7、 require-ments of Specification C230/C230M.4.2 Caliper, Conforming to the requirements of Specifica-tion C230/C230M. Alternatively, any outside-measuring cali-per constructed of corrosion-resistant material may be used,provided that it is incremented in millimetres and its maximumextent of measuring
8、 is at least 260 mm (1014 in.).4.3 Tamper, conforming to the requirements of Test MethodC109/C109M.4.4 Trowel, having a steel blade 100 to 150 mm (4 to 6 in.)in length, with straight edges. The edges when placed on aplane surface shall not depart from straightness by more than 1mm (0.04 in.) (Note 1
9、).4.5 Straightedge, made of steel, shall be at least 200 mm (8in.) long and not less than 1.5 mm (0.06 in.) nor more than 3.5mm (0.14 in.) in thickness. Its edge shall not depart from aplane surface by more than 1 mm (0.04-in.) (Note 1).NOTE 1The trowel specified in Test Method C109/C109M and thestr
10、aightedge specified in Test Method C185 may be used for this purpose,providing they comply with the planeness indicated.5. Temperature and Humidity5.1 The temperature and relative humidity of the air in themixing room shall be as prescribed in Specification C511.6. Materials6.1 Hydraulic Cement Mort
11、arA mortar for which thedetermination of flow is specified or desired.7. Procedure7.1 Determination of Flow:7.1.1 Carefully wipe the flow table clean and dry, and placethe flow mold at the center. Place a layer of mortar about 25mm (1 in.) in thickness in the mold and tamp 20 times with thetamper. T
12、he tamping pressure shall be just sufficient to ensureuniform filling of the mold. Tamping should be uniformlydistributed over the cross section of each layer. For the bottomlayer this will necessitate inclining the tamper slightly whentamping near the perimeter. Then fill the mold with mortar andta
13、mp as specified for the first layer. 16、across the top of the mold. Wipe the table top clean and dry,being especially careful to remove any water from around theedge of the flow mold. Lift the mold away from the mortar 1min after completing the mixing operation. Immediately dropthe table 25 times in 15 s, unless otherwise specified.7.1.2
17、If using the caliper specified in Specification C230/C230M, measure the diameter of the mortar along the fourlines scribed in the table top, recording each diameter as thenumber of caliper divisions, estimated to one tenth of adivision. If some other caliper is being used, measure thediameter of the
18、 mortar along the four lines scribed in the tabletop, recording each diameter to the nearest millimetre.8. Calculation8.1 The flow is the resulting increase in average basediameter of the mortar mass, expressed as a percentage of theoriginal base diameter.8.2 If using the caliper specified in Specif
19、ication C230/C230M, add the four readings, and record the total. This givesthe flow in percent.8.2.1 If using some other caliper, compute the flow inpercent by dividing “A” by the original inside base diameter inmillimetres and multiplying by 100.where:A = average of four readings in millimetres, mi
20、nus theoriginal inside base diameter in millimetres.9. Report9.1 Report the flow to the nearest 1 %.10. Precision and Bias10.1 PrecisionThe single-operator, within-laboratorystandard deviation has been found to be 4 % flow. Therefore,results of two properly conducted tests by the same operator onsim
21、ilar batches should not differ by more than 11 % (Note 2).10.1.1 The multilaboratory standard deviation has beenfound to be 11 %. Therefore, results of two different laborato-ries on similar batches should not differ by more than 31 %flow (Note 2).NOTE 2Data produced when water content is being vari
22、ed to obtain agiven flow is not applicable for this purpose. Only data where flow hasbeen determined using a given cement and fixed water content isapplicable. Consequently, the only data currently available is that ex-tracted from the CCRL Proficiency Sample Program for CS Flow onC109/C109M mortars
23、 (dropping the flow table 25 times in 15 s).
