Materials and Manufacture6.1 XPP thermal insulation shall be formed by the expan-sion of polypropylene base resin in an
20、extrusion process. XPPthermal insulation shall be of uniform density.7. Physical Requirements7.1 Inspection Requirements:7.1.1 The physical requirements listed in this section aredefined as inspection requirements (refer to Practice C 390).7.1.2 All dimensional requirements are described in Section8
21、.7.1.3 All workmanship, finish, and appearance requirementsare described in Section 9.7.1.4 Density shall be in accordance with Table 1.NOTE 2For lots of 150 units or less, the tightened inspection samplingplan in Practice C 390 will be followed.7.2 Qualification Requirements:7.2.1 The physical prop
22、erties listed in this section of thespecification are defined as qualification requirements (refer toPractice C 390). Thermal resistance, compressive resistance,water vapor permeance, water absorption, and dimensionalstability, shall be in accordance with Table 1.7.2.2 The mean thermal resistance of
23、 the material testedshall not be less than the minimum value identified in Table 1.The thermal resistances of individual specimens tested shallnot be less than 90 % of the minimum value identified in Table1.7.2.3 Compliance with qualification requirements shall bein accordance with Practice C 390.7.
24、3 Table 1 describes types of XPP thermal insulation.However, it does not cover all available products on themarket. The values stated in Table 1 shall not be used as designvalues. It is the buyers responsibility to specify designrequirements and obtain supporting documentation from thematerial suppl
25、ier.7.4 Combustibility CharacteristicsXPP thermal insula-tion is an organic material and is, therefore, combustible. Itshall not be exposed to flames or other ignition sources. E84/ UL 723 is a useful reference laboratory test data that isrequired by codes. These tests do not define the hazard that
26、canbe presented by XPP thermal insulation under actual fireconditions.8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 The materials covered by this specification are com-monly available in the sizes shown in Table 2. Other sizes shallbe agreed upon between the supplier and the user.8.2 Dimensional Toler

Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 DefectsXPP thermal insulation shall have no defectsthat will adversely affect its service qualities. XPP thermalinsulation shall be of
31、 uniform texture and free of foreigninclusions, broken edges and corners, slits, and objectionableodors.10. Sampling10.1 Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order orcontract, the material shall be sampled in accordance withPractice C 390.11. Test Methods11.1 Conditioning and Aging:11.1.1 Samp
32、les shall be conditioned as required by the testmethod to either preconditioned moisture equilibrium or con-ditioned moisture equilibrium, using procedures defined byPractice C 870. Samples shall be held at equilibrium conditionsuntil they are transferred into the testing equipment. Samples tobe use
33、d for density test, and water vapor transmission test shallbe conditioned at 73.4 6 4F (23C 6 2C) and 50 + 5 %relative humidity for a minimum of 24 h prior to the start oftests. Samples to be used for the compressive resistance test,water absorption test, dimensional stability test, and thermalresis
34、tance test shall be conditioned as specified in the appli-cable test procedure.11.2 Dimensions and DensityTest in accordance with TestMethod C 303 or Test Method D 1622.11.3 Thermal ResistanceTest in accordance with TestMethods C 177, C 518, C 1114, C 1363 or Practice C 1045 orPractice C 1058. Tests
35、 shall be conducted with a temperaturedifferential of 40 6 2F (22 61C). In case of dispute, TestMethod C 177 shall be the referee method. Rejection shall be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing.13.2 In the case of rejection of a shipment, the producershall have

Certification14.1 Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order orcontract, Practice C 390 shall be the basis for the certification.When specified in the purchase order

Product Marking15.1 The following shall be marked on each shippingcontainer, bundle, or board:15.1.1 Insulation specification number,15.1.2 Type,15.1.3 Name or trademark of the manufacturer, and15.1.4 Instructions governing the R-value
