Scope*1.1 This specification covers solid, dry-cast, concrete facingbrick intended for interior and exterior use in constructingstructural and facing masonry components a

3、nd are made fromportland cement, water, and suitable mineral aggregates with orwithout the inclusion of other materials.NOTE 1Specification C55 addresses concrete building brick used innon-facing, utilitarian applications (previously referred to in earliereditions of Specification C 55C55 as Grade S

4、for general use wheremoderate strength and resistance to frost action and moisture penetrationare required). This specification differs from Specification C55 in that itincludes expanded consideration for properties of concrete brick used infacing applications and other exposures (previously referre

5、d to in earliereditions of Specification C55 as Grade Nfor use as architectural veneerand facing units in exterior walls and for use where high strength andresistance to moisture penetration and severe frost action are desired).1.2 The text of this specification references notes andfootnotes which p

These notes andfootnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not beconsidered as requirements of the standard.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Terminology3.1 Terminology defined in Terminology C1232 shall applyfor this specification.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.3 concrete building brick, na concrete masonry unit,with a maximum width of four (4) inch

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Cementitious MaterialsMaterials shall conform to thefollowing applicable specifications:4.1.1 Portland CementS

14、pecification C150.4.1.2 Modified Portland CementPortland cement con-forming to Specification C150, modified as follows:4.1.2.1 LimestoneCalcium carbonate, with a minimum85 % CaCO3content, is permitted to be added to the cement,provided these requirements of Specification C150 as modifiedare met:(1)

Physical Requirements5.1 At the time of delivery to the

21、 purchaser, units shallconform to the physical requirements prescribed in Table 1.5.1.1 When higher compressive strengths than those listedin Table 1 are specified, the tested average net area compres-sive strength of three units shall equal or exceed the specifiedcompressive strength, and the follo

22、wing single unit strengthrequirements shall apply.5.1.1.1 When the specified compressive strength is less than5000 psi, no single unit net area compressive strength testresult shall be less than the specified compressive strengthminus 500 psi.5.1.1.2 When the specified compressive strength is 5000 p

23、sior greater, no single unit net area compressive strength testresult shall be less than 90 % of the specified compressivestrength.5.2 At the time of delivery to the purchaser, the total lineardrying shrinkage of units shall not exceed 0.065 % when testedin accordance with Test Method C426.NOTE 4The

24、 purchaser is the public body or authority, association,corporation, partnership, or individual entering into a contract or agree-ment to purchase or install, or both, concrete facing brick. The time ofdelivery to the purchaser is FOB plant when the purchaser or thepurchasers agent transports the co

25、ncrete facing brick, or at the timeunloaded at the worksite if the manufacturer or the manufacturers agenttransports the concrete facing brick.6. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations6.1 No overall dimension (width, height, and length) shalldiffer by more than 618 in. (3.2 mm) from the specif

26、iedstandard dimensions.NOTE 5Standard dimensions of concrete facing brick are the manu-facturers designated dimensions. Nominal dimensions of modular sizeconcrete facing brick are equal to the standard dimensions plus thethickness of one mortar joint. Nominal dimensions of nonmodular sizeconcrete fa

27、cing brick usually exceed the standard dimensions by18 to14in. (3.2 to 6.4 mm).6.1.1 For those units with faces altered for aestheticpurposes, overall dimensional tolerances apply only to thosedimensions not affected by the altering.NOTE 6For such units, dimensions will vary. Consult with supplierst

28、o determine achievable dimensional tolerances.6.2 For cored concrete facing brick, the net cross-sectionalarea in any plane parallel to the surface containing the coresshall be at least 75 % of the gross cross-sectional areameasured in the same plane. No part of any hole shall be lessthan34 in. (19.

29、1 mm) from any edge of the unit.7. Finish and Appearance7.1 All units shall be sound and free of cracks or otherdefects that interfere with the proper placement of the units orsignificantly impair the strength or permanence of the construc-tion. Minor cracks incidental to the usual method of manufac

30、-ture or minor chipping resulting from customary methods ofhandling in shipment and delivery are not grounds for rejec-tion.7.2 Where units are to be used in exposed wall construc-tion, the faces shall not show chips or cracks not otherwisepermitted or other imperfections when viewed from a distance

31、of not less than 20 ft (6.1 m) under diffused lighting.7.2.1 Five percent of a shipment containing chips, notlarger than12 in. (12.7 mm) in any dimension, or cracks notwider than 0.02 in. (0.5 mm) and not longer than 25 % of thenominal height of the unit, is permitted.7.3 The color and texture shall

32、 be specified by the purchaser.The exposed faces shall conform to an approved sampleconsisting of not less than four units, representing the range oftexture and range of color permitted.8. Methods of Sampling and Testing8.1 The purchaser or authorized representative shall beaccorded proper facilitie

33、s to inspect and sample the concretefacing brick at the place of manufacture from the lots ready fordelivery.8.2 Sample and test concrete facing brick in accordancewith Test Methods C140 and Test Method C426, when appli-cable.8.3 Total linear drying shrinkage shall be based on tests ofconcrete facin

37、t.C1634 0929. Compliance9.1 If a sample fails to conform to the specified physicalrequirements, the manufacturer shall be permitted to removeunits from the shipment. A new sample shall be selected by thepurchaser from remaining units from the shipment with asimilar configuration and dimension and te

38、sted at the expenseof the manufacturer. If the second sample meets the specifiedphysical requirements, the remaining portion of the shipmentrepresented by the sample meets the specified physical require-ments. If the second sample fails to meet the specified physicalrequirements, the remaining porti

39、on of the shipment repre-sented by the sample fails to meet the specified physicalrequirements.NOTE 7Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order, the costs oftests is typically borne as follows: (1) if the results of the tests show thatthe units do not conform to the requirements of this specif
