Significance and Use4.1 This specification is used to specify material by physicalproperty requirements that address the prerequisites in Sections6 to 10. The designer of an insulation system, after determiningt
20、he system requirements, shall use this specification to specifythe appropriate aluminum jacketing.5. Classification5.1 Classification of aluminum jacketing is based on threefactors:5.1.1 Outer surface treatment and emittance (e):5.1.1.1 Type I = Bare surface, = 0.15.1.1.2 Type II = Painted with pigm

Materials and Manufacture6.1 Aluminum jacketing materials are composed of a singlematerial or a lamination of several components. Th
25、e materialsare supplied in the form of rolls or sheets or preformed to fit thesurface to which they are to be applied. The materials areapplied in the field or as a factory-applied composite with theinsulation.6.2 The primary material shall be aluminum and shall havea finish that is smooth,316 in. c
26、orrugated, or stucco embossed.The dimensions of corrugations (pitch and depth) must beagreed to by manufacturer and purchaser to achieve inter-changeability, constant rigidity, and appearance.6.3 In most cases, the inner surface of aluminum jacketingmaterial is coated or covered with a moisture resi
27、stant film toretard possible galvanic or chemical corrosion, or both, of thejacketing.6.4 For highly corrosive ambient conditions or to increaseemittance, the purchaser shall specify that the outer surface ofthe aluminum be coated with a pigmented or unpigmentedpaint or with a plastic film.6.5 The a
28、luminum used in this jacketing, with the exceptionof box rib, shall be manufactured from Specification B209,alloys 3003, 3105, or 1100 with tempers of H14 (half hard),H12 (quarter hard), or dead soft Grades 1, 2, or 3 per 5.1.2.6.6 Aluminum jacketing shall be specified by the thicknessof the aluminu
29、m layer which shall be in the range from 0.016to 0.050 in. (0.41 to 1.27 mm)6.7 Box rib aluminum jacketing pieces shall be manufac-tured from Specification B209, alloys 3003 or 3105 (Grade 1)or alloys 3004 or Alclad 3004 (Grades 4 and 5) per Section5.1.2 and shall be 0.032 in. (0.8 mm), 0.040 in. (1
30、.0 mm), 0.048in. (1.2 mm), or 0.050 in (1.3 mm) thick.NOTE 2Typical box rib widths available are 45-58 in. (1159 mm),38.5 in. (978 mm), and 27.5 in. (699 mm). Typical lengths available are 8,10, and 12 ft (2.4, 3.0, and 3.7 m). The pattern of grooves and ridgestypically repeats on 4 in. (102 mm) cen
31、ters and the height of each rib istypically 1 in. (25 mm).6.8 Deep corrugated aluminum jacketing pieces shall be0.016 in. (0.4 mm), 0 .020 in. (0.5 mm), 0.024 in. (0.6 mm),0.032 in. (0.8 mm), 0.040 in. (1.0 mm), or 0.048 in. (1.2 mm)thick.6.8.1 Typical deep corrugated width is 33 in. (838 mm) andtyp
32、ical length is 6 to 12 ft (1.8 to 3.7 m). Two nominalrepeating patterns are common 1-14 in. (32 mm) on centerswith a14 in. (6 mm) height and a 2-12 in. (64 mm) on centerswith a58 in. (16 mm) height. For specific repeating patterndistances, the manufacturer shall be consulted.7. Physical Properties7.
33、1 Required physical properties are shown in Table 1 andTable 2.7.2 All aluminum jacketing shall demonstrate a flamespread of 25 or less and smoke developed of 50 or less whentesting the outer side (the side opposite that contacting theinsulation) in accordance with 11.2.NOTE 3Aluminum jacketing is n
34、ot typically considered a fire resistantmaterial. If a higher level of fire resistance or protection is required,C1729 12a2alternative jacketing materials usually based on steel, should be consid-ered.7.3 Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, theemittance of the jacketing shall be consider
35、ed to be:7.3.1 Type I = 0.1 which is typical for a normally oxidizedaluminum jacket in service,7.3.2 Type II = 0.8 which is typical for a pigmented paint,7.3.3 Type III = 0.5 which is typical of an unpigmentedpaint, and7.3.4 Type IV = 0.85 which is typical of a plastic filmsurface.NOTE 4Testing of t
36、he emittance of Type I has yielded initial unoxi-dized values ranging from 0.03 to 0.05 and oxidized “in-service” valuesranging from 0.1 to 0.31 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6). The use of an emittance of 0.1 isrecommended here as being the most conservative value. 7.3 addresses thesituation where a user of this st
37、andard wishes to consider a differentemittance value.7.4 Permissible thickness tolerances vary with nominalthickness and are shown in Table 3. Thickness is measured per11.3.7.5 Requirements for permissible pinholes in the moistureretarder when tested per 11.4 are shown in Table 2.7.6 The moisture re
38、tarder shall have no visual defect thatwill affect performance and shall be free of laminated separa-tions, holes, rips, tears, scratches, dents, non-uniform edges, orcreases.7.7 Requirements for water vapor transmission rate(WVTR) of the moisture retarders tested per 11.6 are shown inTable 2. Testi
39、ng the WVTR of moisture retarders is notpossible after they are applied to the aluminum jacketing sothis testing shall be done on the moisture retarders prior toapplication.8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 Dimensions for aluminum jacketing shall be as agreedto by purchaser and seller.8.2
40、When cut into sheets for use as pipe insulation jacketing,the dimension of the aluminum jacketing sheet designed toaccommodate the pipe insulation circumference shall be calledthe length and the other major dimension shall be identified asthe width.8.2.1 The length shall be a minimum of the outer ci
41、rcum-ference of the insulation plus 2 in. (51 mm) for insulation outerdiameter # 20 in. (508 mm) and a minimum of the outercircumference of the insulation plus 2.5 in. (64 mm) forinsulation outer diameter 20 in. (508 mm).8.2.2 Typical width is 36 in. (0.91 m), 48 in. (1.22 m), or 1meter (39.4 in.).8
42、.2.3 Dimensions differing from these standards are pos-sible but must be agreed to by purchaser and seller.8.2.4 Tolerances for aluminum jacketing sheets shall be 618 in. (6 3mm) in width and length.8.3 When cut into sheets for use as equipment and vesselinsulation jacketing, the longer dimension of

Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 There shall be no defects in materials or workmanshipthat will affect the required performance of the aluminumjacketing.9.2 There shall be no defects that a
47、dversely affect theappearance of the aluminum jacketing.9.3 There shall be no defects that would affect the ability ofthe user to process the aluminum jacketing material.10. Requirements of Aluminum Jacketing10.1 The main purposes of aluminum jacketing are toprovide physical damage resistance, UV pr
48、otection, and toshed liquid water minimizing the amount entering the insula-tion system.10.2 If greater levels of corrosion resistance are desired thanthat achieved with plain aluminum, a painted or coatedaluminum (Types II, III, or IV) shall be considered. If evengreater levels of corrosion resista
49、nce are desired, use ofstainless steel jacketing shall be considered.10.3 The applications for aluminum jacketing are catego-rized into three areas; straight pipe, pipe elbows/fittings, andvessels/equipment.
