Significance and Use4.1 These methods offer a means of estimating the workingtime, initial setting time and service strength setting time ofchemical-resistant resin mortars. The results obtained shouldserve as a guide in, but not as the sole bas

Apparatus5.1 Weighing EquipmentShall be capable of weighingmaterials or specimens to 60.3 % accuracy.5.2 Mixing Equipment:5.2.1 Porcelain Enameled PanMeasuring approximately250 mm long by 400 mm wide by 50 mm deep (10 in

9、. by 16in. by 2 in.).5.2.2 Bricklayers Triangular TrowelApproximately 100mm (4 in.) in length.5.3 BricksAs per Specification C279, Type III.5.4 Vicat ApparatusThe Vicat apparatus shall consist of aframe, A (see Fig. 1), bearing a movable rod, B, weighing 300g, one end, C, the plunger end, being 10 m

10、m in diameter for adistance of at least 50 mm and the other end having aremovable steel needle, D, for initial setting timedetermination, 1 mm in diameter and 50 mm in length. The rod,B, is reversible, and can be held in any desired position by a setscrew, E, and has an adjustable indicator, F, whic

11、h moves overa scale (graduated in millimetres) attached to the frame, A. Inaddition to the above, the Vicat apparatus shall conform to thefollowing requirements:5.4.1 Weight of Plunger300 6 0.5 g.5.4.2 Diameter of Larger End of Plunger10 6 0.05 mm.5.4.3 Diameter of Needle1 6 0.05 mm.5.4.4 Graduated

17、ble upon agreement between themanufacturer and user provided that they are reported with thetest data.6.2 Preparation of Mortar:6.2.1 Prepare a 1000-g sample of mortar, using proportion-ate amounts of filler and liquid as recommended by themanufacturer. If the proportions specified are by volume,wei

18、gh the materials and report the corresponding proportionsby weight. Pour an appropriate amount of liquid into the pan,gradually add the powder to the liquid resin, and mix thor-oughly with the trowel until a uniform mixture is obtained (thisshall be complete within 3 min). Continue the mixing operat

19、ionfor 1 min after an apparently uniform mixture is obtained.Spread out the mortar in a layer of uniform thickness coveringthe entire surface of the mixing pan.6.2.2 For a multicomponent resin mortar, the proceduredescribed in 6.2.1 may be modified slightly to permit theaddition of the catalyst to t

20、he mortar within the specified timelimit.6.3 Working Time:6.3.1 Remove approximately 25-g portions of the resinmortar at specific intervals and trowel on the horizontal surfaceof clean, dry freezer paper. In order that sufficient data will beobtained with the minimum quantity of material, it is reco

21、m-mended that the testing be done every 5 min until the materialbegins to curl behind the trowel. The sample shall be removedfrom a portion of the mortar located at least 50 mm (2 in.) fromthe side of the pan. The material used for tests shall not bereturned to the mixing pan. The working time shall

22、 be recordedas the longest time (in minutes) at which the mortar does notcurl behind the trowel.6.4 Initial Setting Time:6.4.1 Immediately after mixing is complete, remove andbutter a sufficient amount of the mortar on the sides of twoclean, dry bricks to providea6mm(14 in.) joint. The bricksshould

23、be laid on freezer paper and the buttered sides pushedtogether to form a joint approximately 6 mm (14 in.) wide. Careshould be taken to eliminate voids when pushing the brickstogether. It is advantageous to establish the joint thickness byinserting a dowel rod near each end of the joint. Strike off

24、anyexcess material above the joint by use of the trowel.6.4.2 Examine the joint qualitatively, at 1-h intervals, withthe point of the trowel until indentation becomes difficult.Continue the test with the Vicat needle (at 20 to 30-minintervals) until the indentation of the needle during a 10-minperio

25、d is less than 1 mm. Record the initial setting time as thetime interval in hours at which the indentation of the Vicatneedle is less than 1 mm.6.5 Service Strength Setting Time:6.5.1 Make a minimum of three tension test specimens fortesting at each time interval. This normally requires 12 or moresp

26、ecimens. Prepare tension specimens in accordance with TestMethod C307. Make the first test 24 h after the initial mixingtime and continue every 48 h until 90 % of the manufacturerspublished value for tensile strength is reached.6.5.2 Record the service strength setting time as the time indays betwee
