Scope1.1 This specification co

3、vers the classification, composition,physical properties, and dimensions of mineral fiber (rock,slag, or glass) blanket intended for use as thermal insulation onsurfaces operating at temperatures between 0F (-18C) and1200F (649C). For specific applications, the actual tempera-ture limits shall be ag

4、reed upon between the supplier and thepurchaser.1.2 The orientation of the fibers within the blanket isprimarily parallel to the principal surface (face). This specifi-cation does not cover fabricated pipe and tank wrap insulationwhere the insulation has been cut and fabricated to provide afiber ori

5、entation that is perpendicular to the surface (face).1.3 For satisfactory performance, properly installed protec-tive vapor retarders must be used in below ambient temperatureapplications to reduce movement of water vapor through oraround the insulation towards the colder surface. Failure to usea va

6、por retarder can lead to insulation and system damage.Refer to Practice C921 to aid material selection. Althoughvapor retarders are not part of this specification, propertiesrequired in Specification C1136 are pertinent to application orperformance.1.4 This standard does not purport to provide the p

7、erfor-mance requirements of hourly-rated fire systems. Consult themanufacturer for the appropriate system.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. 20、tion4.1 Mineral fiber blanket insulation covered by this speci-fication shall be classified into seven types shown in Table 1.The classification is based upon the maximum use temperatureand apparent thermal conductivity of the insulations.5. Ordering Information5.1 The type, dimensions, maximum use

21、temperature, andfacing shall be specified by the purchaser. A product certifica-tion (if required) shall be specified in the purchase order.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 CompositionMineral fiber blanket insulation shall becomposed of rock, slag, or glass processed from the moltenstate into fibrous

22、 form bonded with an organic or inorganicbinder, or both. Asbestos shall not be used as an ingredient orcomponent part of the product.6.2 Facings:6.2.1 The purchaser shall specify whether the insulationshall be supplied plain or with facing, and if faced, shallspecify the type and its requirements.N

23、OTE 1The user of this specification is advised that the maximum usetemperature of facing and adhesives may be lower than the maximum usetemperature of the insulation. The user of this specification shall ensurethat sufficient insulation thickness is installed so that none of theseaccessory items (fa

24、cings and adhesives) are exposed to temperaturesabove their maximum use temperature. Physical Property Requirements7.1 The insulation shall be classified as flexible, when testedin accordance with 11.7.7.2 The insulati

35、e to satisfy every potential corrosion applica-tion.)7.5 Non-Fibrous (Shot) ContentThe averaged maximumshot content of rock or slag mineral fiber products, Types Ithrough VII as shown in Table 1, shall not exceed 25 % byweight as defined in 11.1. Non-fibrous content is not applicableto glass mineral

36、 fiber products.7.6 Maximum Use TemperatureShall be tested in accor-dance with 11.3, the insulation with facing shall not warp,flame or glow during hot surface exposure. No evidence ofmelting or fiber degradation shall be evident upon post-testinspection.7.7 Maximum Exothermic Temperature RiseShall

37、betested in accordance with 11.3, the internal temperature shallnot at any point in time exceed the hot surface temperature bymore than 200F (111C). The 200F (111C) criterion appliesduring heat-up as well as steady state conditions. Exceedingthis limit shall constitute non-compliance to specificatio

38、n andrejection.7.8 Stress Corrosion to Austenitic Stainless SteelWhenspecified, shall be tested and evaluated in accordance with11.9.7.9 Fungi ResistanceShall be tested in accordance with11.10; growth no greater than that on a comparative item(white birch wood) shall be considered to have passed the

39、 testmethod criteria.8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 The standard sizes and tolerances of mineral fiberblanket insulation are listed in Table 2. Specific sizes andtolerances shall be agreed upon between the purchaser andsupplier.8.2 The maximum density (determined in accordance withTest

40、Method C167) specified in Table 3 for Type(s) I throughType VII are for weight design purposes only.9. Workmanship9.1 The insulation shall have good workmanship and shallnot have defects which adversely affect its installation andperformance qualities.10. Sampling10.1 Inspection and qualification of

41、 the insulation shall be inaccordance with Practice C390, or as otherwise specified in thepurchase order or contract as agreed upon between the pur-chaser and the supplier.11. Test Methods11.1 Non-Fibrous (Shot) Content of Inorganic FibrousThermal InsulationShall be tested in accordance with TestMet

42、hod C1335.11.2 Apparent Thermal Conductivity:11.2.1 The thermal conductivity as a function of tempera-ture for the representative specimens shall be determined withdata obtained from a series of thermal tests utilizing TestMethods C177, C518,orC1114 as appropriate for the materialunder study. Specim

43、en shall be tested unfaced and at amaximum thickness of 2 in. (51 mm) unless the manufacturedminimum thickness of the insulation material cannot abide bythis requirement; whereby test at the minimum thicknessrepresentative of the product.11.2.1.1 Test Method C518 shall not be used at temperaturesor

44、resistances other than those in the range of the calibration.11.2.1.2 Test Method C1114 shall not be used at tempera-tures or resistance ranges other than those with comparableresults to Test Method C177.11.2.2 The test method selected shall have proven correla-tion with C177 over the temperature ra

47、pute, C177 shall be considered as the finalauthority for material having flat geometry.11.2.3 Practice C1058 shall be used to obtain recommendedtest temperature combinations for testing purposes.11.2.4 As specified in C1045, the range of test conditionsmust include at least one test where the hot su

48、rface temperatureis greater than, or equal to, the hot limit of the temperaturerange of desired data and at least one test where the coldsurface temperature is less than, or equal to, the cold limit ofthe temperature range desired. Additional tests, at least twoadditional, shall be distributed somew

49、hat evenly over the restof the temperature range.11.2.5 Final analysis of the thermal data shall be conductedin accordance with C1045 to generate a thermal conductivityversus temperature relationship for the specimen.11.2.6 Final step of C1045 analysis would be to calculatethe thermal conductivity using the equations generated at a setof mean temperatures for comparison to the specification.11.2.6.1 While it is recommended that the specification databe presented as conductivity versus temperature, several exist-ing specificatio
