This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. Scope 1.1 Thisspecicationc

3、overstheclassication,composition, physical properties, and dimensions of mineral ber (rock, slag, or glass) blanket intended for use as thermal insulation on surfaces operating at temperatures between 0F (-18C) and 1200F (649C). For specic applications, the actual tempera- ture limits shall be agree

4、d upon between the supplier and the purchaser. 1.2 The orientation of the bers within the blanket is primarily parallel to the principal surface (face). This speci- cation does not cover fabricated pipe and tank wrap insulation where the insulation has been cut and fabricated to provide a ber orient

5、ation that is perpendicular to the surface (face). 1.3 For satisfactory performance, properly installed protec- tivevaporretardersmustbeusedinbelowambienttemperature applications to reduce movement of water vapor through or around the insulation towards the colder surface. Failure to use a vapor ret

6、arder can lead to insulation and system damage. Refer to Practice C921 to aid material selection. Although vapor retarders are not part of this specication, properties required in Specication C1136 are pertinent to application or performance. 1.4 This standard does not purport to provide the perfor-

7、 mance requirements of hourly-rated re systems. Consult the manufacturer for the appropriate system. 1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. Terminology 3.1 DenitionsFor denitions used in this specication, refer to Terminology C168. 3.2 Denitions of Terms Specic to This Standard: 3.2.1 mean temperaturethe sum of the cold surface tem-

Classication 4.1 Mineral ber blanket insulation covered by this speci- cation shall

21、be classied into seven types shown in Table 1. The classication is based upon the maximum use temperature and apparent thermal conductivity of the insulations. 5. Ordering Information 5.1 The type, dimensions, maximum use temperature, and facing shall be specied by the purchaser. A product certica-

22、tion (if required) shall be specied in the purchase order. 6. Materials and Manufacture 6.1 CompositionMineral ber blanket insulation shall be composed of rock, slag, or glass processed from the molten state into brous form bonded with an organic or inorganic binder, or both. Asbestos shall not be u

23、sed as an ingredient or component part of the product. 6.2 Facings: 6.2.1 The purchaser shall specify whether the insulation shall be supplied plain or with facing, and if faced, shall specify the type and its requirements. NOTE1Theuserofthisspecicationisadvisedthatthemaximumuse temperature of facin

24、g and adhesives may be lower than the maximum use temperature of the insulation. The user of this specication shall ensure that sufficient insulation thickness is installed so that none of these accessory items (facings and adhesives) are exposed to temperatures above their maximum use temperature.

25、Practice C680 can be used to determine surface temperatures. 6.2.2 The vapor retarder facings shall be in accordance with specication C1136. 6.2.3 Typical facing is as follows (others are available): 6.2.3.1 Aluminum foil, reinforced ber glass scrim, and natural (brown) kraft paper laminate (facing)

Physical Property Requirements 7.1 Theinsulationshallbeclassiedasexible,whentested in accordance with 11.7. 7.2 The insulation type shall conform to the following requ

34、or of objectionable nature recorded by more than two of the ve panel members shall constitute rejection of the material when tested in accordance with 11.5. 7.4 Corrosiveness to SteelWhen tested and evaluated in accordance with Specication C665 in 11.6, any corrosion resulting from the unfaced insul

35、ation in contact with steel plates shall be judged to be no greater than for comparative plates in contact with sterile cotton. 7.4.1 The use of Practice C1617 is an acceptable alternative to thetestprocedurein7.3,withthemasslosscorrosion rate of steel test sample exposed to the unfaced insulation e

36、xtract not to exceed that of the 5 ppm chloride solution. NOTE 2There are facing adhesives that can cause corrosion to steel when in contact with water or water vapor and the steel. Currently, there is no test method available to satisfy every potential corrosion application. 7.5 Non-Fibrous (Shot)

37、ContentThe averaged maximum shot content of rock or slag mineral ber products, Types I through VII as shown in Table 1, shall not exceed 25 % by weightasdenedin11.1.Non-brouscontentisnotapplicable to glass mineral ber products. 7.6 Maximum Use TemperatureShall be tested in accor- dance with 11.3, th

38、e insulation with facing shall not warp, ame or glow during hot surface exposure. No evidence of melting or ber degradation shall be evident upon post-test inspection. 7.7 Maximum Exothermic Temperature RiseShall be tested in accordance with 11.3, the internal temperature shall not at any point in t

39、ime exceed the hot surface temperature by more than 200F (111C). The 200F (111C) criterion applies during heat-up as well as steady state conditions. Exceeding this limit shall constitute non-compliance to specication and rejection. 7.8 Stress Corrosion to Austenitic Stainless SteelWhen specied, sha

40、ll be tested and evaluated in accordance with 11.9. 7.9 Fungi ResistanceShall be tested in accordance with 11.10; growth no greater than that on a comparative item (white birch wood) shall be considered to have passed the test method criteria. 8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations 8.1 The standar

41、d sizes and tolerances of mineral ber blanket insulation are listed in Table 2. Specic sizes and tolerances shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and supplier. 8.2 The maximum density (determined in accordance with Test Method C167) specied in Table 3 for Type(s) I through Type VII are for weig

42、ht design purposes only. 9. Workmanship 9.1 The insulation shall have good workmanship and shall not have defects which adversely affect its installation and performance qualities. 10. Sampling 10.1 Inspectionandqualicationoftheinsulationshallbein accordance with Practice C390, or as otherwise speci

43、ed in the purchase order or contract as agreed upon between the pur- chaser and the supplier. 11. Test Methods 11.1 Non-Fibrous (Shot) Content of Inorganic Fibrous Thermal InsulationShall be tested in accordance with Test Method C1335. 11.2 Apparent Thermal Conductivity: 11.2.1 The thermal conductiv

44、ity as a function of tempera- ture for the representative specimens shall be determined with data obtained from a series of thermal tests utilizing Test Methods C177, C518,orC1114 as appropriate for the material under study. Specimen shall be tested unfaced and at a maximum thickness of 2 in. (51 mm

45、) unless the manufactured minimum thickness of the insulation material cannot abide by this requirement; whereby test at the minimum thickness representative of the product.
