Materials and Manufacture4.1 Gaskets shall be made of a properly vulcanized virgincompound containing virgin rubber as the sole

12、 elastomer withno scrap or reclaim.4.2 Gaskets manufactured for use in couplings complyingwith Specification C1277 or CISPI 310 shall be manufacturedfrom a properly vulcanized virgin compound in which theprimary elastomer is polychloroprene (neoprene). The gasketsshall be tested in accordance with T

Physical Requirements5.1 Sample gaskets selected as specified in Section 8 shallconform to the requirements for physical properties listed inTable 1 when tested in accordance with the methods specifiedin Section 9.6. Dimensions and Permissib

17、le Variations6.1 Gaskets shall conform to the dimensions specified bythe manufacturer.6.2 All cross-sectional dimensions shall have an RMAClass3 tolerance as shown in Annex A1, and all diametral dimen-sions shall have a tolerance of 6 1 percent.7. Workmanship7.1 The surface of the gasket shall be sm

18、ooth and free ofpitting, cracks, blisters, air marks, and any other imperfectionsthat will affect its behavior in service. The body of the gasketshall be free of porosity and air pockets.7.2 Neither the flash thickness nor the flash extension shallexceed132 in. (0.8 mm), at any point on the sealing

19、ring.7.3 The offset, or failure of the mold to register accurately,shall not exceed164 in. (0.4 mm).8. Sampling8.1 For each of the tests, gaskets shall be selected at randomand tests be performed by the method and frequency of thetests as specified in Section 9.9. Test Methods9.1 HardnessThe gasket

20、material shall be tested forhardness in accordance with ASTM Test Method D2240. TestMethod D1415 shall be used as the referee method. Hardnessmeasurements shall be made on specimens prepared in accor-dance with 9.2. However, hardness readings for guidancepurposes shall be permitted to be taken direc

21、tly on the gasket,recognizing that these readings may vary slightly from thosetaken on the dumb-bell specimens. Tests shall be performedduring the day of production not to exceed a 24-h period foreach size and type gasket produced during that period.9.2 Elongation and Tensile StrengthThe gasket mate

22、rialshall be tested for elongation and tensile strength in accordancewith Test Methods D412. Standard ASTM Type C dumb-bellspecimens conforming to Fig. 1 (Apparatus for Tensile SetTest) of Test Methods D412 shall be cut from a section of thegasket for this test. To obtain a uniform thickness, these

23、gasketsections shall be permitted to be buffed prior to cutting intodumb-bell specimens, so as to produce a finely ground surfacewithout cuts or burns. Tests shall be performed during the dayof production not to exceed a 24-h period for each size and typegasket produced during that period.9.3 Tear S

24、trength The gasket material shall be tested fortear strength in accordance with Test Method D624 using DieC. Tests shall be performed during the day of production not toexceed a 24-h period for each size and type gasket producedduring that period.9.4 Compression Set The gasket material shall be test

25、edfor compression set in accordance with Test Methods D395using Method B. Specimens shall be aged in an oven for 22 hat 158 6 2F (70 6 1C). Where plied specimens arenecessary, the results shall comply with the requirements ofTable 1. Tests shall be performed during the day of productionnot to exceed

26、 a 24-h period for each size and type gasketproduced during that period.9.4.1 When testing hubless pipe gaskets, the specimensshall be 1-in. disks cut from prepared samples .075 to .090-in.thick and not to exceed seven (7) plies. The thickness of thedisk shall be measured in accordance with Test Met

27、hods D395,section 13.1. Since all specimens from hubless pipe gaskets arecurved, not flat, it is important to measure the thickness in thecenter of the disk with the specimen laying in a concavemanner. Measure the thickness of each ply and add themeasured thickness of each ply (not to exceed seven p

28、lies) todetermine the original plied up thickness (to). The plied uptarget thickness should be approximately .50 in. Take theoriginal plied up thickness (to) and multiply it by .75 todetermine the thickness of the spacer bar to be used (tn).Assemble the plied up specimens in the test fixture (TestMe

35、 or asource of supply has changed, whichever is the shorter period.9.6 Water AbsorptionThe gasket material shall be testedfor weight increase due to water absorption in accordance withTest Method D471. If a 1-in. (25.4-mm) specimen cannot becut from the sample gasket, the greatest width obtainable s

36、hallbe used. The test specimen shall be immersed in distilled waterat 158 6 2F (70 6 1C) for 7 days. Test shall be performedannually or when a formulation change has occurred, or asource of supply has changed, whichever is the shorter period.9.7 Ozone ResistanceThe gasket material shall be testedfor

37、 ozone resistance in accordance with Test Method D1149,using specimens and procedure specified under Method B. Theozone concentration shall be 150 parts/100 000 000 of air byvolume. Specimens shall be aged 100 6 1h at 104 6 2F (406 1C). A two-power hand magnifying glass shall be used toexamine the g

38、asket for cracks. Test shall be performed annuallyor when a formulation change has occurred, or a source ofsupply has changed, whichever is the shorter period.9.7.1 When testing gaskets used in hubless pipe couplings,the ozone concentration shall be 100/100 000 000 (1PPM) ofair by volume.9.8 Oil Imm

39、ersion The gasket material shall be tested forvolume decrease due to oil absorption in accordance with TestMethod D471. If a 1-in. (25.4 mm) specimen cannot be cutfrom the sample gasket, the greatest width obtainable shall beused. The test specimen shall be immersed in IRM 903 for 706 0.7 h at 212 6

40、 2F (100 6 1C). Test shall be performedannually or when a formulation change has occurred, or asource of supply has changed, whichever is the shorter period.10. Certification10.1 Upon request, the purchaser, design professional, orthe administrative authority having jurisdiction where theproducts ar

41、e being installed shall be furnished certification, bythe manufacturer, stating samples representing each lot havebeen tested and inspected as indicated in this specification andthe requirements have been met. If requested by the purchaser,design professional, or the administrative authority havingj

42、urisdiction where the products are being installed, certificationshall be accompanied by test reports as prepared in accordancewith the Sections 4-9 of this specification. Certification shallinclude the legal name and address of the manufacturer.10.2 Third Party certifiers or inspectors shall utiliz

43、e theprocedures detailed in Annex A1 when conducting inspectionsat the manufacturing locations.11. Marking11.1 Mark each gasket with clearly legible letters notexceeding14 in. (6.35 mm) in height. These markings shallinclude the gasket manufacturers name or symbol, the pipesize and class (such as NH

44、 for no hub, SV for service, XH forextra heavy), country of origin and the ASTM specificationdesignation. THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATION OR INSPECTIONA2.1 Third Party certifiers or inspectors conducting regularinspections at the manufacturers production facility shallinclude but not be limited to the following during eachinspection.A2.1.1 A re

47、view of the manufacturers records to verifycompliance with Sections 4-9 of this standard. Copies of themanufacturers test reports shall be added to the third partycertifiers inspection report.A2.1.2 Random inspections of the manufacturers finishedgoods inventory shall be conducted during each inspec

48、tion.These inspections shall include a dimensional and markinginspection of not less than 10 randomly selected gaskets ofdifferent sizes and types during inspection. Each gasket used aspart of a coupling shall be subject to the requirements of theapplicable coupling standard.ASTM International takes
