Test Methods5.1 MaterialsGypsum Base for Veneer Plaster, see Speci-fication C1396/C1396M.5.2 SamplingSample not less than 1 % of the packages,but not less than 5 pa
18、ckages. Select packages to be sampled atrandom. Take samples both from the outer portion and thecenter of each package. Thoroughly mix the materials soobtained to provide a composite sample of not less than 15 lb(6.8 kg). Place this composite sample immediately in a clean,dry, airtight container for
19、 delivery to the laboratory.5.3 Test Unit PreparationFrom the sample, prepare panelsof veneer plaster system and cut four 2 ft (600 mm) square, andthree 12 by 16 in. (300 by 400 mm) specimens.5.4 ConditioningCondition specimens to constant weightat a temperature of 85 6 15F (29.5 6 8.5C) and relativ
20、ehumidity of 50 6 2 % (see Note 2). Test specimens individu-ally after constant weight is reached.NOTE 2Laboratory test results indicate that conditioning temperaturesmay range from 70 to 100F (21 to 38C) without significantly affectingthe results. However, relative humidity is critical. Therefore,
21、specimensshall be tested within 10 min upon removal from the conditioningchamber.5.5 Number of TestsRun each test in triplicate.5.6 Bond Strength:5.6.1 Significance and UseThe bond strength test is de-signed to evaluate the bond of veneer plaster to veneer plasterbase and between the base coat and f
22、inish coat. The degree ofcorrelation between these test methods and service perfor-mance has not been determined.5.6.2 ProcedureSelect three 2 ft (600 mm) square speci-mens. Raise each specimen and slam the back side (face nottreated with veneer plaster) on a bare concrete floor repeatedlyuntil the
23、specimen is broken.5.6.3 ReportReport whether the sample passes or fails thebond test. The sample fails if the bond to the veneer base orbetween the finish coast and base coat delaminates on any oneof the specimens.5.6.4 Precision and BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias
24、 of the bond test since the testresult is nonquantitative.5.7 Impact Strength:5.7.1 Significance and UseThe impact strength is de-signed to test the effect of impact from a hard object on thesurface of the veneer plaster. The degree of correlation betweenthis test method and service performance has
25、not been deter-mined.5.7.2 Apparatus:5.7.2.1 A stand with a solid, flat base at least 2 ft (600 mm)square with a means of holding the steel ball and releasing itfrom a height of 36 in. above the base, without impartingadditional force.5.7.2.2 A12 in. (38 mm) diameter polished steel ball weigh-ing 7.
26、8 6 0.1 oz (221 6 3 g).5.7.3 ProcedureSelect one 2 ft (600 mm) square. Placethe specimen horizontally, with the plaster surface face up, onthe base of the apparatus . Drop the steel ball three times ontodifferent areas of the panel surface.5.7.4 ReportReport whether the sample passes or fails theimp

The sample fails if there is a loss of bond orcracking beyond the impact area on any one of the drops.5.7.5 Precision and BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias of the impact test since thetest result is nonquantitative.5.8 Flexure:5.8.1 Significance and UseThe f
28、lexure test is designed totest the effect on the resistance to cracking and bond of theveneer plaster to the veneer plaster base while being flexed.The degree of correlation between this test method and serviceperformance has not been determined.5.8.2 ApparatusUse the apparatus described in Test Met
29、h-ods C473 for Method B.5.8.3 ProcedureSelect three 12 by 16 in. (300 by400 mm) specimens. Subject each specimen to a continuous,midpoint, loading applied at a rate of 1 in./min 6 5s(25 mm min 6 5 s) downward to the back of the panel (plastersurface in tension) supported over a clear span of 14 in.(
30、356 mm) until failure.5.8.4 ReportReport whether the sample passes or fails theflexure test. The sample fails if any one of the specimens showscracking more than12 in. (13 mm) from the break line or if thebond of the veneer plaster to the paper fails.5.8.5 Precision and BiasNo information is present
31、edabout either the precision or bias of the flexure test since thetest result is nonquantitative.5.9 Joint Strength:5.9.1 Significance and UseThe joint strength test is de-signed to test strength of the joint between two adjacentgypsum veneer panels that have been covered with veneerplaster. 32、ree of correlation between this test method andservice performance has not been determined.5.9.2 ApparatusUse the apparatus described in Test Meth-ods C473 for Method B.5.9.3 Specimen PreparationCut two 8 by 12-in. (200 by300-mm) pieces of gypsum base for veneer plaster for eachspecimen to be tested
33、. One 12-in. edge of each piece shall bethe paper-bound edge. Place the two pieces of gypsum base forveneer plaster face down with the paper-bound edges formingthe joint. Apply a pregummed tape over the joint. (The tapewill keep the joint from flexing during the specimen prepara-tion.) Turn face up
34、and apply joint tape and gypsum veneerplaster in accordance with Specification C843 using themethod titled “Reinforcement Secured and Embedded withVeneer Plaster.”5.9.4 ProcedureCondition the specimen and determinethe flexural strength in accordance with Test Methods C473Method B.Apply the load para

36、s C473.6. Inspection6.1 Inspection of the gypsum veneer plaster shall be agreedupon between the purchaser and the supplier as part of thepurchase agreement.7. Rejection and Rehearing7.1 Rejection of gypsum veneer plaster that fails to conformto the requirements of this specification shall be reporte
37、d to theproducer or supplier promptly and in writing. The notice ofrejection shall contain a statement documenting how thegypsum veneer plaster has failed to conform to the require-ments of this specification.8. Certification8.1 When specified in the purchase agreement, a manufac-turers or suppliers
38、 report shall be furnished at the time ofshipment certifying that the product is in compliance with thisspecification.9. Packaging and Package Marking9.1 Gypsum veneer plaster shall be dry and free from lumps,and shall be shipped in packages.9.2 When shipped for resale, the following informationshal
