It was set up by David Ross, an engineer who had previously worked in car manufacturing. When David lost his job in 1974 he decided to set up his own company and this

In the early days, Ross rejected the idea of a competitive pricing policy to establish the company. He always thought that product quality was more important to the companys success. He believe

This has been a success and they now intend to spend large sums on a new computer system. This will improve the speed of customer service. David Ross believes the workforce plays a large par

29、t in the success of his firm. There is a good relationship between management and staff. Basic pay is average for the area and holidays are standard but the company pays bonuses to staff when large orders are finished on time. Local government wants to encourage training schemes in the workplace and

30、 MTF has successfully applied to them for funding. MTF hopes that the companys training scheme will increase productivity but they accept that money invested in training doesnt guarantee this. MTF doesnt have a large management structure and it has promoted most of its managers from within the compa

36、ll, I wasnt as far-sighted as a lot of people, especially in America. When I first heard about the internet in nineteen ninety-one, I thought it would be only used for education. But I actually decided to set up Media-X the following year, when I realised that new software was already making it easi

37、er to use. So I suppose that was quite early on - compared to most other Europeans, that is. Woman: But what about before that? Tell us something about your early career. Man: I studied economics at university and then joined a large international bank as a trainee manager, eventually becoming a vic

My father has a well- established office supplies company, so, apart from the financial side, he also knows a lo

I rely on his opinion a lot when Im trying to decide whether or not to invest in new ventures. Woman: So, tell us about the companies you help. Im sure you get lots of requests for funding sent to

40、you. Man: Yes, we receive about three hundred proposals a year. We examine them all, discuss them, then decide which to go with. About two hundred are worth considering in detail, with maybe a hundred being finally selected. Woman: What would you say makes a successful proposal? Man: Well, we look f

41、or a number of things. But, before anything else, we have to be sure theres a clear demand for what the company intends to provide. Of course, then we have to consider other things like a strong business plan behind the proposal and, of course, the people at the top - theyve got to be worth investin

42、g in. Woman: You mentioned before that you dont only provide the money for starting new businesses. What other services do you provide? Man: Were not in a position to provide software programmes, technical details, things like that, or information about possible markets. Where we can help is by maki

43、ng sure that companies know what to charge for their goods and services so that everything is on a healthy basis. Woman: And youve certainly enjoyed some recent successes, havent you?
