Sales within the UK were the largest segment of sales. They accounted for two-fifths (40%) of the total. However, the proportion
5、 of profits from UK sales was less than this at a quarter (25%) of the total. Sales to the rest of Europe were the second largest segment of sales, accounting for just over one third (35%) of all sales. However, the profits from sales to the rest of Europe made up half (50%) of the total profits mad
6、e by the company, Sales to the USA comprised one fifth (20%) of the total sales. This is half the amount of sales within the UK. Profits from sales to the USA also made up a fifth (20%) of total profits, This pattern was repeated with sales to the rest of world; which accounted for 5% of sales and a

They may say that modern inventions such as aircraft and computers mean that what happened before cannot be compared to what is happening now. They may also say t
10、hat people nowadays are different to people in the poet. Opponents of this point of view say that these suggestions are incorrect. They note that history is often the story of struggles between different groups, tribes, countries or alliances or even philosophies and that therefore similarities can
11、easily be found. For example, there is now peace in Europe, but we can still see how the various members of the European Union try to get other member countries to do what they want. France continues to look more at Europe whilst Britain tends to look more at her relationship with the USA. Other sit
12、uations in the modern world are clearly directly related to historical events. The Arab-Israeli problem is a perfect example. The Jews claim that they were forced out of Palestine and now believe that they have a right to live there and have their own state. The Arabs claim that they have lived in t
13、his area for at least as long as the Jews and were a majority until the state of Israel was established without their permission in the 20th century. To conclude, I think it is quite clear that history has much to tell us and that a knowledge of history is necessary for a full understanding of the present world.
