People who oppose government funding of sports teams and individuals say that this is precisely why gov

、ernments shouldnt be responsible for the funding. They say that the political importance of sporting competitions and matches often overshadows what should be a celebration of sporting skill and ability. People who are in favour of government financial support for sports teams and individuals also p

、oint out that it is often difficult to get financing from other sources. Businesses are usually willing to support only the most successful sports stars and sports teams, leaving many without an alternative source of money. Just because a person or a team is not currently successful, it doesnt mean

、that they will always be. Governments, rather than businesses, can invest in sports teams and individuals because it is good in general, not just because they expect some profit from it. Opponents point out that sport should be like any other activity and should compete for funds on its merits. My p

、ersonal opinion is that sports teams and individual sports men and women need a lot of money and that it is unreasonable to expect the government, with its limited budget, to finance it alone.
