Dimensions and Permissible Variations5.1 Studs and rigid furring channels shall have a configu-ration and steel thickness such that the system in whi

17、ch theyare used will carry the design transverse loads without exceed-ing either the allowable stress of the steel or the allowabledesign deflection. Main beams and cross furring of gridsuspension systems shall be limited to a deflection of L/240.The manufacturer shall supply sufficient data for cal

18、culatingdesign performance.NOTE 1Allowable deflection varies depending on the cladding usedand architectural requirements. Detailed requirements shall be specified inapplication specifications.5.1.1 Members, except main beams of grid suspensionsystems, shall be sufficiently rigid to permit penetrati

19、on of thescrew.5.1.2 Minimum width of face to which gypsum board isscrew-attached shall be not less than 114 in. (32 mm).5.1.3 Minimum lip dimension shall be316 in. (5 mm). SeeFig. 1.5.2 Members shall be manufactured within the limits asshown in Table 1 and Fig. 2.5.3 Rigid Furring ChannelsMinimum d

20、epth shall be78in. (22 mm). Minimum width of furring attachment flanges (seeFig. 3) shall be12 in. (12.7 mm).5.4 Grid suspension systems include main beams and crossfurring members which mechanically interlock to form amodular supporting network. Length tolerance for grid suspen-sion members shall b

21、e 6116 in. (1.59 mm).5.5 Runners (track) shall be formed in a U-shaped configu-ration, having web depth compatible with those of the studs ofthe same nominal size. The runners (track) shall be designedsuch that when the studs are placed in both the top and bottomrunners (track), they are held by fri

22、ction. Minimum height offlanges shall be 1 in. (25 mm).6. Edges6.1 Members shall be manufactured in such a fashion as tominimize burrs and sharp edges.7. Cutouts7.1 Cutouts shall not reduce the performance of the mem-bers in the gypsum board construction assembly below thespecified performance requi

Sectional Properties8.1 The sectional properties of members shall be computedin accordance with AISI S100 (See Tables 2 and 3 and Figs. 1and 3).9. Performance Requirements9.1 PenetrationWhen tested in accordance with Section10, members sha

24、ll be capable of pulling the head of the screwbelow the surface of the gypsum board in less than 2 s withoutspin out.9.2 Members that can show certified third party testing inaccordance with ICC-ES-AC86 (Approved July 1995Editorially Revised September 2005) and conform to thelimiting height tables i

25、n Specification C754 need not meet theminimum thickness limitation set forth in 4.3 or the minimumsection properties set forth in 8.1.10. Penetration Test10.1 Significance and UseThis test method provides aprocedure for evaluating the members ability to pull the headof a screw below the surface of g

26、ypsum wallboard. It shall beused to determine compliance with this specification. Thedegree of performance of this test method with service perfor-mance has not been determined.10.2 Apparatus shall satisfy the following:10.2.1 Power-Driven Drill Screw Gun, capable of 4000 rpm(free spindle speed) wit

27、h a depth-sensitive nose piece, suppliedwith a screw driving bit to fit the screw used in the test.10.2.2 Stop Watch, capable of being read to the nearest 0.1s.10.3 Materials shall satisfy the following:10.3.1 Gypsum WallboardSpecification C1396/C1396M,Type X,58 in. (16 mm) thick.10.3.2 ScrewsSpecif

28、ication C1002, Type S, minimum 1in. (25.4 mm) long.10.3.3 Paper Joint TapeSpecification C475/C475M.10.4 SamplingOne member shall be selected from eachbundle or package but not more than ten from any oneshipment for testing.10.5 Specimen Preparation:10.5.1 Each member to be tested shall be cut into t

29、estspecimens not less than 18 in. (460 mm) long.10.5.2 For each test, one piece of gypsum wallboard, 6 in.(150 mm) square, shall be cut from not less than 12 in. (300mm) from the edge or end of the gypsum wallboard.10.5.3 For each test, four pieces of paper joint tape, 2 in. (50mm) square shall be c

30、ut.10.6 Procedure10.6.1 Assemble the member, gypsum wallboard and paperjoint tape on a rigid, flat surface. (See Fig. 4 for studs, Fig. 5for furring channels.)10.6.2 Prior to performing the test, drive several screwswithout the paper joint tape to set the depth of the nose pieceon the screw gun, all

31、owing the screws to be driven below thesurface of the wallboard without breaking the gypsum wall-board face paper.10.6.3 Drive the screw through the paper joint tape, usingthe screw gun, while applying a force (dead weight and appliedforce) of 30 lbf (112.2 N). Drive the screw until the nosepieceof

32、the screw gun has either stopped and seated the screw or thescrew spins out. Record if the screw has spun out and if itexceeds2stoseat the screw in the gypsum wallboard.10.7 Number of Tests and Retests:10.7.1 A sample consisting of five specimens of membersshall be tested.10.7.2 If not more than one

33、 of the test specimens fails tomeet the requirements, the sample has met the requirements.10.7.3 If two of the five test specimens fail to meet therequirements, two additional test specimens shall be chosen forretesting. If either of the two additional test specimens fail, thesample has failed to me

34、et the requirements of this test.10.8 ReportReport shall indicate the total number ofspecimens tested and the number of specimens meeting therequirements of this specification.10.9 Precision and BiasNo statement is made about eitherthe precision or bias of this test method since the result merelysta

35、tes whether or not there is conformance to the criteria forsuccess specified in the procedure.11. Inspection11.1 Inspection of the members shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the producer or supplier as part ofthe purchase agreement.12. Rejection12.1 When specified in the purchase agreemen

36、t, membersthat fail to conform to the requirements of the specificationshall be rejected. Rejection shall be reported to the producer orsupplier promptly and in writing. The notice of rejection shallcontain a statement documenting how the member has failed toconform to the requirements of this speci

37、fication and thepurchase agreement.13.
