Scope1.1 This specification covers structural insulating board forgeneral thermal insulating, fire-resistive, and marine bulkheadapplications. Th

3、e rigid, preformed structural insulating board isfor use at temperatures up to 1700F (927C). For specificapplications, the actual temperature limit shall be agreed uponbetween the manufacturer and the purchaser.1.2 The structural insulating board maintains its structuralintegrity after immersion in

4、water.1.3 Rapid cycling over a wide temperature range is notrecommended because of potential damage due to thermalshock.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. The approximate SI equivalents of inch-poundunits are given in parentheses.1.5 This standard does not p

5、urport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 When the installation or use of thermal

6、 insulationmaterials, accessories and systems, may pose safety or healthproblems, the manufacturer shall provide the user appropriatecurrent information regarding any known problems associatedwith the recommended use of the companys products, andshall also recommend protective measures to be employe

Materials and Manufacture6.1 Calcium silicate structural insulating board shall becomposed of hydrated calcium silicate with natural or man-made fibers or fillers,

18、or a combination thereof. Asbestos shallnot be used as an ingredient or component of the product.7. Other Requirements7.1 Calcium silicate structural insulating board shall con-form to the physical and mechanical requirements specified inTable 1.8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 Calcium si

19、licate structural insulating board is typicallyavailable in lengths 48 or 96 in. (1219 or 2438 mm), widths of24 or 48 in. (610 or 1219), and thicknesses from12 to 3in. (13to 76 mm).8.2 Dimensions shall be within the following tolerances ofspecified values:Length Width Thickness618 in. (3 mm) 618 in.

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 Calcium silicate structural insulating boards shall nothave visible defects, such as major cracks, lumps, or excessivedeparture from planeness, which adversely affect service quali-ties.10. Qualification Requirements10.1 Unless other

21、wise specified, the following requirementsshall be employed for the purpose of initial material or productqualification.10.1.1 Compressive strength,10.1.2 Screw holding strength,10.1.3 Linear shrinkage and temperate of use,10.1.4 Apparent thermal conductivity, and10.1.5 Combustion characteristics.11

22、. Sampling11.1 Calcium silicate structural insulating boards shall besampled in accordance with Practice C 390. Specific provisionsfor sampling shall be agreed upon between the purchaser andthe supplier.12. Test Methods12.1 Dimensions and DensityUse Test Method C 303,except that specimens shall be f

23、ull-size sheets for determina-tion of length and width and at least 12-in. (300-mm) squarefor determination of thickness and density.12.2 Flexural StrengthUse Test Methods C 203 on a 1-in.(25-mm) thick specimen.12.3 Compressive StrengthUse Test Methods C 165.Specimen thickness shall be 112 in. (38 m

24、m). Compressspecimen to 10 % deformation and calculate on maximum loadvalue.12.4 Screw Holding StrengthUse Test Methods D 1037,Direct Screw Withdrawal Test. Test at least three specimens,312-in. (89-mm) square, and 1 in. (25 mm) or more in thicknessafter drying to constant weight from 215F (102C) to

25、 250F(121C). Drill a hole at least 1 in. (25 mm) deep, normal to thesurface at the center of each specimen, with a No. 29 drill.Install a No. 8, Type A, self-tapping screw at least78 in. 34、upplier.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Failure to conform to the requirements in this specifi-cation shall constitute cause for rejection. Rejection shall bereported to the producer or supplier promptly and in writing.14.2 In case of rejection, the manufacturer or supplier shallhave the right to re

35、inspect the rejected shipment and resubmitthe lot after removal of that portion not conforming to thespecified requirements.15. Certification15.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, themanufacturers or sellers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser stating that samples repres

36、enting each lot have beenmanufactured, tested, and inspected in accordance with thisspecification and the requirements have been met. Whenspecified in the purchase order or contract, a report of the testresults shall be furnished.16. Packaging and Package Marking16.1 PackagingUnless otherwise specif

37、ied, the manufac-turers standard packaging system shall be used.16.2 Marking:16.2.1 Unless otherwise specified, each package shall bemarked with the manufacturers name, the product name,quantity, nominal dimensions, and manufacturers lot or date-code identification.16.2.2 When specified in the purch

38、ase order or contract,each container shall be marked with the appropriate ASTMC656 type and grade, or other special designations.17.
