Scope1.1 This specification covers the composition, size, dime

3、n-sions, and physical properties of glass fiber blanket thermal andacoustical insulation for use up to 700F (370C) in aircraftapplications. For specific applications, the maximum tempera-ture shall be agreed upon between the supplier and thepurchaser.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to

Classification4.1 Fibrous glass blanke

12、t insulation covered by this speci-fication shall be classified into Types based on temperaturelimits, Classes based on acoustical properties, Grades based onnominal density and Groups based upon thickness as shown inTable 1.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C16 onTherm

Ordering Information5.1 The type, class, grade, and group suited to the conditionsof intended service shall be sp

16、ecified by the purchaser afterconsultation with the supplier. Type refers to service tempera-ture, class refers to thermal/acoustical properties, grade refersto nominal density and group refers to thickness of insulation.5.2 It shall also be specified whether the insulation is to bewater repellent o

17、r non-water repellent.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 Composition:6.1.1 Fiber shall be glass processed from a molten state intofibrous form.6.1.2 Binder shall be of a type and quantity to provide theproperties and performance listed in this specification. Addi-tives can be included to provide a degr

18、ee of water repellency.6.1.3 This product is typically supplied unfaced.6.1.4 The basic product can also be obtained in uncuredform for molding into special shapes other than blanket.However, not all requirements in this specification apply. Thepurchaser shall consult the supplier and agree on the p

19、ortionsof this specification and conditions that are applicable.6.2 For sizes and densities other than those listed, thepurchaser shall consult the material supplier.7. Physical Requirements7.1 The insulation shall conform to the requirements de-scribed in 7.2-7.11 and Tables 1-5.7.2 DensityThe insu

20、lation shall conform to the require-ments shown in Table 1. The insulation shall have a maximumdensity tolerance when tested in accordance with 11.6 of +15%, with no minimum limit.7.3 HandleabilityEach piece of insulation shall be suffi-ciently coherent to permit transportation and installation as a

21、unit.7.4 Burning CharacteristicsThe insulation shall conformto the requirements in FAR 25.853, Appendix F, Part I and theencapsulated insulation blanket shall conform to the require-ments in FAR 25.856(a) in accordance with 11.1. If required,unfaced blankets are tested with alternative methods or re

22、quire-ments recognized by airframe manufacturers to demonstrateand maintain product consistency.7.5 Wicking (water-repellent insulation only)The insula-tion shall conform to the requirements in Table 2, when test inaccordance with 11.2.7.6 Odor EmissionA detectable odor of objectionablenature record

Inspection13.1 The following requirements are generally employedfor purposes of acceptance sampling of lots or shipments ofqualified insulation:13.1.1 Density,13.1.2 Water Repellency (water-repell

44、ent material only),13.1.3 Dimensions, and13.1.4 Workmanship.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthe specification may be rejected. Rejection shall be reported tothe manufacturer or supplier promptly and in writing. In caseof dissatisfaction with the r

45、esults of the test, the manufactureror supplier can make claim for a rehearing.14.2 In case of rejection, the manufacturer or supplier shallhave the right to reinspect the rejected shipment and resubmitthe lot after removal of that portion of the shipment notconforming to the specified requirements.

Packaging and Package Marking15.1 PackagingUnless otherwise agreed or specified be-tween the purchaser and the manufacturer or supplier, theinsulation shall be packaged in the manufacturers standardcommercial containers.15.2 MarkingUnless otherwise specified, containers shallbe marked with the s

47、uppliers name and designation, type,class, size and thickness, and quantity of the material con-tained.16.
