2、, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice covers the repair of spray-applied polyure-thane insulation on vessels normally operating
3、 at temperaturesbetween 30 and + 107C (22 and + 225F).1.2 CautionAt temperatures below 0C (32F) the appli-cation of a spray “foam” directly onto the cold substrate maynot be possible. The term “foam” applies to spray-appliedpolyurethane or polyisocyanurate (PUR or PIR) rigid cellularplastic only, an

Surface Preparation4.1 All damaged or nonadhering foam shall be removed tothe substrate in all directions, until dry, sol

8、uctions.4.4 A covering shall be installed around the area to berepaired, prior to spray foam application, to protect thesurrounding undamaged area from overspray and removedafter completion of the repair work.5. Repair Procedure5.1 The repair shall be accomplished in one of the followingmanners:5.1.
9、1 Foam shall be spray applied to the prepared area andtop-coated with the specified protective coating. (An open-weave reinforcing fabric may be embedded into the wet firstcoat if desired. Caution shall be taken to embed the reinforcingfabric totally within the coating.)5.1.2 For substrate temperatu
10、res below 0C (32F), thefollowing procedure shall be used: Cut to shape and install athin layer of rigid PUR/PIR board (to insulate the surface) inthe prepared area with a joint sealer. Apply spray foam inaccordance with 5.1.1.5.2 All horizontal areas shall be repaired in a manner toprovide drainage
11、and prevent free-standing water.5.3 Spraying shall not be done in the presence of water(rain, fog, condensation, etc.) or wind velocities greater than 15mph (24 km/h). (With the owners approval, shielded scaffoldsmay be used in wind velocities greater than 15 mph (24 km/h).)5.4 On the scaffolding or

13、areas shall be repaired the same day oradequately covered to prevent the intrusion of moisture orother foreign materials, or both. On vessels operatingbelow +70F (21C), repair them the same day without excep-tion.5.6 The spray-applied foam or rigid board shall be dry, clean, and free of dust before a

If the insulation has been left uncoated for more than3 days, the surface shall be brushed and air blown beforeapplying the coating.1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C16 on ThermalInsulation and is the direct responsibility of Subcommitte
