Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 The types of surface treatments covered by thispractice are as follows:3.1.2 multiple-surface treatmenta wearing surface com-posed of bituminous material and aggregate, in which coarseraggregate is placed uniformly over an initial application ofbituminous m

8、aterial and followed by one or more subsequentapplications of bituminous material and smaller aggregate.3.1.2.1 DiscussionGenerally, the designated maximumsize of the smaller aggregate is one half that of the aggregateused in the preceding application. Each application of aggre-gate is placed unifor

Significance and Use4.1 This practice is intended to be used as a guide by thoseinvolved in the design of bituminous surface treatments. Itcovers typical application rates for the various types of surfacetreatments and covers agg

11、regate sizes and covers recom-mended grades of asphaltic material for both hot and coolweather conditions.4.2 The typical bituminous material application rates givenare for normal surfaces and non-porous aggregates. Provisionis made for rate adjustment when other than normal surfaces orporous aggreg

Rates of Application5.1 Typical quantities of materials for the several types ofsurface treatments are listed in Table 1 and Table 2.5.2 The quantities of the various gradations are normallysufficient to provide a uniform cover over the area specified. The quantities of

13、 aggregate are shown by volume measurementin order to minimize the effect of variations due to specificgravity, particle shape, surface texture, and porosity.
