Scope1.1 This test method provides a means for evaluatingcontact compatibility between asphaltic materials.

Significance and Use4.1 This test method assesses the degree to which asphaltsinteract with one another. It can indicate possible futureproblems, especially blistering, in a roofing product if incom-pat

7、ible asphalts are in contact in the product.5. Apparatus5.1 Container, lid of 85-g (3-oz) ointment box, or equiva-lent container.5.2 Analytical Balance, having an accuracy of 61.0 mg.5.3 Sieve 45-m (No. 325). Detailed requirements for thesesieves are given in Specification E11.5.4 Dropping Device, a

8、 fine wire 1.0 mm (0.04 in.) indiameter.5.5 Oven, constant-temperature, capable of maintaining thetest temperature within 61.0C (61.8F).5.6 Small Scale, graduated in 0.1 mm divisions.5.7 Magnifying Glass or Stereo Microscope, approximateminimum of 43.5.8 Talc, pure, of the soapstone variety, ground

9、so that atleast 70 % passes the 45-m (No. 325) sieve, and oven-dried at110C (230F).NOTE 1When this test method is being used in purchase specifica-tions, both the purchaser and the seller shall use the same talc. Talc fromLuzenac America, Inc.4has been found to be suitable for this test.6. Procedure

10、6.1 Melt a portion of the coating at the minimum tempera-ture required to render it fluid, stirring with the fine wire toeliminate bubbles, and pour it into the clean 85-g (3 oz) tin lidto a thickness of 3.0 to 6.0 mm(18 to14 in.). Pour carefully, soas to provide a substantially smooth surface free

11、of bubbles andother surface blemishes. After the coating material has cooled,determine the weight and surface area of the filled container.6.2 Make a preliminary dusting of talc by covering thecoating surface with talc and removing the excess, nonadherentdust by inverting the container and dropping

17、ited States.the coating, by gently shaking or tapping the sieve until asmooth, uniform film of talc, weighing 0.004 g 6 10 % persquare centimetre, has been applied.6.4 Place 3 drops of molten saturant, each about 3.0 6 0.5mm (18 6164 in.) in diameter, on the talced surface of thecoating. Form the dr

18、ops by plunging the wire into the moltensaturant and, after the excess has drained off, allowing suitablysized drops to fall on the talc from a sufficient height to formsubstantially spherical drops.6.5 Place the prepared specimen in the test oven, so regu-lated as to maintain the specimen at the re

19、commended testtemperature, within 61.0C (61.8F), for 72 h (Note 2). Aftercooling, examine the specimen and measure any oily ringformed around the periphery of the drop, recording its width tothe nearest 0.1 mm. Measure the width from the line of contactof talc and drop to the outer limit of the oil

20、ring.NOTE 2The recommended test temperature for roofing materials is50C (122F), but this may be altered to accommodate variations in thebitumens being tested.7. Report7.1 Report the results of the compatibility test as the widthin millimetres of the ring developed in the specified testtemperature.8.

21、 Precision and Bias8.1 RepeatabilityDuplicate results by the same operatorshould not differ by more than 0.1 mm.8.2 ReproducibilityResults between laboratories shouldbe reproducible within 0.2 mm.9.
