Scope1.1 This classification system

3、 covers polychlorotrifluoroeth-ylene (PCTFE) plastics that consist of at least 90 % chlorotri-fluoroethylene and are suitable for extrusion and for compres-sion and injection molding. Additional components allow forchemical modifications, such as co-monomers, but notcolorants, fillers, plasticizers,

4、 or mechanical blends with otherresins. This classification system does not cover recycledPCTFE materials.1.2 The physical and electrical properties of parts molded orextruded from PCTFE molding compounds vary with thecrystalline content obtained during processing and subsequentannealing. Accordingl

5、y, the numerical values listed in Table 1apply only to the test specimens molded in accordance withSection 8. These values are not applicable as design criteria tosemi-finished and finished parts prepared and annealed underother conditions.1.3 The values stated in SI units as detailed in IEEE/SI-10a

19、Abbreviated terms are in accordance with Terminol-ogy D1600.4. Classification4.1 PCTFE materials in powders and pellets are classifiedinto one group. The group is subdivided into classes based onchemical composition. These classes are subdivided intogrades as shown in the Basic Property Table (Table

20、 1).An example of this classification system is given as follows:Group 01 = PCTFEClass 1 = homopolymerGrade 2 = having properties per Table 1 (Grade 2)4.1.1 To facilitate incorporation of future material the“other” category for group (01), class (0), and grade (0) areshown in Table 1.5. General Requ

21、irements5.1 The molding or extrusion material shall be of uniformcomposition and so compounded as to conform to the require-ments of this classification system.6. Detail Requirements6.1 Test specimens prepared in accordance with Section 9shall conform to the requirements prescribed for the particula

22、rtype and grade in Table 1.6.2 For finished PCTFE parts made from resin meetingGroup 01, Class 1, Grade 3 requirements, and intended foraerospace use, detail requirements given in SpecificationD7194 shall be followed.6.3 For finished PCTFE parts made from resin Group 01,Class 1, Grade 0, 1, 2, or 3

23、requirements, and intended forgeneral use, detail requirements given in Specification D7211shall be followed.7. Sampling7.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of 11.4.8. Number of Tests8.1 One set of test specimens as prescribed in Section 9shall be considered suffic

24、ient for testing each batch. Theaverage result for the specimens tested shall conform to therequirements prescribed in this classification system.9. Specimen Preparation9.1 Test specimens shall be cut from compression-moldedsheets 1.58 6 0.08 mm (0.062 6 0.003 in.) thick, preparedfrom the resins in

28、Place 30 6 0.5 g of resin intoa 57-mm (2.25-in.) diameter positive-pressure compressionmold and compress the material at room temperature into apreform having a density of 1.4 to 1.5 g/cm3.Apressure of 68.9MPa (10 000 psi) will satisfactorily accomplish the densifica-tion.9.1.2 MoldingPelletized res

29、in, granular resin, and pre-forms of powder resin shall be molded in the following way:Place the preform prepared in accordance with 9.1.1 or 30 60.5 g of pelletized or granular resin on a 0.63-mm (0.025-in.)thick chrome-plated metal plate and cover with a similar plate.Place spacers, 1.91 6 0.03 mm

30、 (0.075 6 0.001 in.) thick,between the chrome-plated metal plates and far enough apartso that they do not interfere with the flow of the resin duringmolding. Place the plates, with spacers and resin in place,between the platens of the press, the platens having beenheated to a surface temperature of

31、265 6 5C. Close andcontinuously load the platens, following the rate of melting sothat the plates reach the stops within 3 min after closing thepress. Then apply sufficient pressure for 3 min more to mold asheet of the required thickness. Immediately after completionof the pressing, relieve the load

32、, remove the plates and plasticsheet together, and at once quench them in cold water (15 65C) for 5 min, supporting the sandwich in a vertical positionin the water. Then strip the 1.58 6 0.08-mm (0.062 60.003-in.) thick sheet from the metal plates. This sheet will beapproximately 75 cm2. Cut specime

33、ns from the center sectionof each sheet, discarding any imperfectly molded edges.10. Test Methods10.1 The properties enumerated in this classification systemshall be determined in accordance with the following testmethods:10.1.1 ConditioningFor those tests where conditioning isrequired, the molded t

34、est specimens shall be conditioned inaccordance with Procedure A of Practice D618.10.1.2 Test ConditionsTests shall be conducted in thestandard laboratory atmosphere of 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F)and 50 6 5 % relative humidity unless otherwise specified inthe test methods or in this classification system.

35、10.1.3 Zero Strength Time (ZST)The zero strength time ofPCTFE plastics shall be determined in accordance with theprocedure described in the following paragraphs:10.1.3.1 Significance and UseControl of molecularweight of these polymers is necessary because the fabricatingtemperatures are very high an

36、d close to the point of rapidthermal degradation. The test for zero strength time is wellsuited to this type of control, as it is rapid, simple, andadaptable to semiautomatic operation, and for specific PCTFEresins correlates with molecular weight.10.1.3.2 ApparatusCylindrical brass thermostat and a

37、c-cessory equipment as specified in Annex A1.10.1.3.3 Test StripFrom the molded sheet prepared inaccordance with Section 9 cut two strips 50 mm (2 in.) long,4.8 mm (316 in.) wide, and 1.58 6 0.08 mm (0.062 6 0.003 in.)thick, using the sample cutter. With the notching punch makea V-notch in both side

38、s of the strips approximately at the centerline (equally distant from the ends of the 50-mm length) so thatthe notches are directly opposite each other. The cross-sectional width between the notches shall be 1.19 6 0.03 mm(0.047 6 0.001 in.), and the sides of each notch shall form anangle of 90 6 0.

39、5 with each other.Alternatively, cut and notchthe test strips in one operation with a test specimen punchmounted in an arbor press. Dimensions of the finished test stripare shown in Fig. A1.1.10.1.3.4 ProcedureInsert one end of each notched stripinto a specimen holder (Fig. A1.1) and clip a weight o

40、f 7.5 60.1 g on the other end of the strip. The specimen holder andweight shall be at or near room temperature (23 6 10C).Insert the weighted specimens into the furnaces, which shall beat a temperature of 250 6 1C, and start the timers at themoment of insertion.As each specimen breaks and the attach

41、edweight drops through the bottom of the furnace, stop thecorresponding timer. Record the time in seconds indicated oneach timer. Take the average of these two readings as the zerostrength time for the duplicate specimens. If the differencebetween the two measurements exceeds 10 % of the average,rej

42、ect these readings and test a second pair of specimens.10.1.3.5 Precision and BiasThe precision and bias datafor this test method is to be determined.10.1.4 Deformation Under LoadTest Method A of TestMethods D621. With 1112-N (250-lbf) load at 70 6 1C,except that permissible deformations may exceed

43、25 %.NOTE 2Experimental data have shown that at 1112-N (250-lbf) loadand 70C, the test for deformation under load is applicable for the purposeof classification to the materials described in this specification beyond25 % deformation.10.1.5 Melting PointThe melting point shall be deter-mined by diffe

44、rential scanning calorimetry (DSC) (see TestMethod D4591).10.1.5.1 For DSC measurements, the test procedure shallfollow that of the procedure section of Test Method D4591,with the exception that the reported melt temperature is thatobtained upon reheating the sample after an initial melting andrecry

45、stallization.10.1.6 Dissipation Factor and Dielectric ConstantTestMethods D150.NOTE 3A disk of approximately 50-mm (2-in.) diameter has beenfound satisfactory for the test.10.1.7 Specific GravityTest Method A of Test MethodsD792. The liquid used shall be n-heptane. The average of thespecificgravity

46、of three test specimens shall be reported.11. Inspection and Certification11.1 Inspection and certification of the material suppliedwith reference to a specification based on this classificationsystem shall be for conformance to the requirements specifiedherein.11.2 Lot-acceptance shall be the basis

47、 on which acceptanceor rejection of the lot is made. The lot-acceptance inspectionshall consist of particle size determination.11.3 Periodic check inspection with reference to a specifi-cation based on this classification system shall consist of theD1430 11 (2016)3tests for all requirements of the m

48、aterial under the specifica-tion. Inspection frequency shall be adequate to ensure thematerial is certifiable in accordance with 11.4.11.4 Certification shall be that the material was manufac-tured by a process in statistical control, sampled, tested, andinspected in accordance with this classificat

49、ion system, andthat the average values for the lot meet the requirements of thespecification (line callout).11.5 A report of test results shall be furnished when re-quested. The report shall consist of results of the lot-acceptanceinspection for the shipment and the results of the most recentperiodic-check inspection.12. Packaging and Package Marking12.1 The provisions of Practice D3892 apply to packaging,packing, and marking of containers for plastic materials.13.
