Summary of Test Method3.1 Pour density is determined by measuring the mass ofcarbon black in a known volume.4. Significance and Use4.1 Pour density is a function of the degree of compaction

6、during pelletization. It is strongly influenced by and inverselyproportional to structure (OAN). Pour density of carbon blackis useful for estimating the weight-to-volume relationship forcertain applications, such as automatic batch loading systems,and for estimating weights of bulk shipments.5. 7、aratus5.1 Cylindrical Container, 1000 or 624-cm3capacity, hav-ing a uniform height and no pouring lip or deformation of thewall. A stainless steel beaker 100 6 5mm(46 0.2 in.) indiameter is acceptable.NOTE 1A satisfactory container can be made by pouring 1000 or 624cm3of water at 20C into a 1000 or

8、1200-cm3stainless steel beaker 1006 5mm(46 0.2 in.) in diameter, marking the water level and then cuttingat the mark after chucking firmly in a lathe.5.2 Straightedge or Spatula, at least 150 mm (6 in.) inlength.5.3 Balance, torsion or trip, with a sensitivity of 0.1 g.6. Sampling6.1 Samples shall b

9、e taken in accordance with PracticeD 1799 or Practice D 1900.7. Procedure7.1 Pour the carbon black into the center of the taredcontainer from a height not more than 50 mm (2 in.) above therim. A large enough excess should be used to form a coneabove the rim of the cylindrical container. Level the su

10、rfacewith a single sweep of the straightedge or spatula heldperpendicular to and in firm contact with the lip of thecontainer. Record the mass of the carbon black to the nearestgram.8. Precision and Bias10.1 This precision and bias section has been prepared inaccordance with Practice D 4483. Refer to Practice D 4483 forterminology and other sta

16、tistical details.10.2 PrecisionThe precision results in this section give anestimate of the precision as described in 10.3-10.5.2. Theprecision parameters should not be used for acceptance/rejection testing of any group of materials without documen-tation that they are applicable to those particular

17、 materials andthe specific testing protocols that include this test method.10.3 A Type 1 interlaboratory precision program was con-ducted in 1994. Both repeatability and reproducibility repre-sent short-term testing conditions. Nine laboratories testedthree carbon blacks (Materials A, B, and C) twic

18、e on twodifferent days. A test result is the value obtained from a singledetermination. Acceptable difference values were not mea-sured.10.4 The results of the precision calculations are given inTable 1, with the materials arranged in ascending “mean level”order.10.5 The precision for the pooled val

19、ues for pour densitymay be expressed as follows:10.5.1 RepeatabilityThe repeatability, (r), of the pourdensity has been established as 1.7 % (pooled). Two single testresults (or determinations) that differ by more than 1.7 % mustbe considered suspect and dictate that some appropriate inves-tigative

20、action be taken.10.5.2 ReproducibilityThe reproducibility, (R),ofthepour density has been established as 3.7 % (pooled). Twosingle test results (or determinations) produced in separatelaboratories that differ by more than 3.7 % must be consideredsuspect and dictate that some appropriate investigativ

21、e ortechnical/commercial action be taken.10.6 BiasIn test method terminology, bias is the differ-ence between an average test value and the reference (true) testproperty value. Reference values do not exist for this testmethod since the value or level of the test property isexclusively defined by th

22、e test method. Bias, therefore, cannotbe determined.11.
