Scope1.1 This specification covers finished treated (coated)woven-glass fabrics coated with either asphalt, coal-tar pitch oran organic resin compatible with the roofing, waterproofing, oro

Classification of Fabric Treatments with GenerallyApplicable Usage4.1 Type I, Asphalt TreatedType I is suitable for use withall asphalts and asphalt based compounds.4.2 Type II, Coal Tar Pitch TreatedType II is suitable foruse with all coal tar pitches and coal tar pitch based compounds(Note 1).4.
8、3 Type III, Organic Resin TreatedThe purchaser andsupplier shall agree on an organic resin that is compatible withor is suitable for, or both, the plying liquid plying materialseither specified or to be used. This organic resin shall not bewater soluble.NOTE 1In some instances the purchaser may spec
9、ify the use of TypesI or II for systems using other than coal tar bitumens or asphalt.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The untreated (greige) scrim (open basket weave) orleno (locked weave) fabrics shall conform to the requirementsas specified in Table 1.5.2 In the process of manufacture, the fibers
10、of the untreatedglass fabric shall be thoroughly and uniformly coated usingequipment which, in combination, handles the fabric and usesa machine speed in a total process that will not injure or distortthe weave of the fabric.5.3 Glass fabric is usually woven in nominal widths of 0.91,1.83 and 2.74 m
11、 36, 72 and 108 in. by the weaving mills.Extra warp (the length of the fabric) threads are included in1.83 and 2.74-m 72 and 108-in. wide fabrics to obtainincremental fabric roll widths of 0.91 m 36 in. These extrawarp threads with a slitting space between each set (a set oftwo) of bunched warp thre
12、ads create a duplicate or “dupe”selvedge with a “brush” edge created by the cut fill threadsinstead of the usually wrapped fill threads seen in a smoothselvedge. This type of fabric selvedge edge is, and has been, anacceptable fabric design (pattern) in both the weaving andconstruction industry.1Thi

16、1 m 36 in. These widths can be furnished at themanufacturers option.6. Physical Properties6.1 Coated FabricThe coated fabric shall conform to therequirements as specified in Table 2. The coated fabric shall notflake at 0C 32F when flexed 180 over 25 mm 1 in.outside diameter mandrel and then immediat
17、ely reversed.6.2 Finished FabricThe finished fabric shall be capable ofretaining its original shape and shall consist of a right angleweave set pattern without bunching either the warp or fillthreads when unrolled during normal handling. There shall beno sticking at temperatures of 10C 50F and above
18、 unlesssuch stickiness is required or specified, or both, by thepurchaser.6.3 Finished RollThe finished roll shall present a neatsquare edge with no loose warp threads. The fabric termina-tions shall be sealed using tape or the like and without the useof staples or heat.7. Workmanship, Finish and Ap
19、pearance7.1 Mesh of FabricThe fabric mesh shall be open an 85 %minimum average of the maximum mass of the roll with anallowable factor of 610 %. This openness of the fabric weaveis to permit a positive flow through of the successive moppingsor applications of the liquid plying materials.7.2 Finish o
20、f the FabricThe fabric finish shall be uni-formly free of tears, cracks, folds, ragged or untrue edges. If arelease compound is used to prevent sticking in the rolls, itmust be barely visible and not of a composition or amount thatwill interfere with adhesion or composition of the liquid plyingmater
21、ials.7.3 SelvageThe selvage of the fabric shall have a mini-mum number of warp threads (yarns) to comprise a width of 6mm 14 in. and a maximum of 13 mm 12 in.8. Sampling and Test Methods8.1 SamplingSampling shall be in accordance with TestMethods D146, paragraph 3.1.8.2 Strength of FabricStrength te
22、sting shall be in accor-dance with Test Methods D146, paragraph 13.2, modified toprevent the glass fabric from slipping from the jaws of thetension testing machine. The modification is to insert a thinstrip of soft gasket rubber between the fabric and the four jawsof the machine before clamping into

33、ection and Resubmittal10.1 Failure to ConformFailure to conform to any of therequirements as stated in this specification constitutes groundsfor rejection.10.2 Rejection RedressThe supplier shall have the right toinspect the rejected materials. The supplier and the purchasershall agree to the quanti
34、ty of rolls deemed unacceptable. Thesupplier shall then have the right to submit the same number ofnew rolls as replacement.11. Packaging and Package Marking11.1 Packaging StandardsUnless otherwise agreed uponbetween the supplier and purchaser, each product package shallbe plainly marked with the su
35、ppliers name, the rolldimensions, the quantity, the style of fabric, the treatment type,and ASTM designation; if applicable, the brand name wouldalso be included.11.2 Cores and WrappingsUnless otherwise agreed uponby the supplier and the purchaser, the finished fabric shall be asfollows:11.2.1 Wound
36、 on paper cores having a minimum 1.6-mm116-in. wall with a maximum 3.2-mm 18-in. wall. Eachpaper core shall have a minimum 44.5-mm 134-in. insidediameter to a maximum 76.2-mm 3-in. inside diameter witha total core length to fully accommodate the width of thefabric; total length of the core is not to
37、 exceed the sum of fabricwidth plus 50.8 mm 2 in., and11.2.2 Banded with paper tape or wrapped in a manner thatcompletely encircles and protects the roll, or both, to preventany slippage and unrolling.11.3 Fabric Continuity Within the Roll:11.3.1 No roll is to contain more than two pieces. The total
38、length of fabric in such a roll is to be at least 450 mm 18 in.greater than the normal roll length. The box shall be marked“SPLICED.”11.3.2 All splices created during the weaving process shallbe marked as in 11.3.1.11.3.3 Any fill voids and areas of damaged warp threads areto be cut out of the roll,
39、 still maintaining the requirements of11.3.1.11.3.4 No roll lot (shipment) shall contain more thana5%quantity of spliced rolls.11.3.5 All cartons and packages within a carton, or whichare otherwise separately packaged, are to be clearly marked as“SPLICED” with the number of spliced rolls contained t
