5、m the action of cool water.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method measures the ability of a floor polish toresist spotting by water. This test method may be used tomeasure the extent of damage by a large amount of water or ina separate method to measure the amount of damage by a smallamount of
6、water that has evaporated to dryness. Referencepolishes should be used for comparison.NOTE 1The test method may induce slight whitening, color change,noticeable change in appearance, including removal of the film, which iscaused by contact with water.5. Apparatus5.1 SubstrateThe substrate to be used
7、 is vinyl composi-tion tile (OVCT).35.2 Distilled Water.5.3 Pipet, volumetric, 1-mL.6. Preparation of Test Panel6.1 Apply the emulsion floor polish on the black officialvinyl composition tile panel in accordance with Method C(Manual Dip Method) of Test Methods D 1436. After applica-tion, place the p
8、anel in a near vertical position and at the endof 10 min, wipe off the bead at the bottom of the panel andallow the panel to dry in a vertical position for2hatstandardconditions of 50 6 4 % relative humidity and 23.9 6 1.1C (756 2F). Apply a second coat in the same manner but reversethe panel so tha
9、t the top is at the bottom. Drain in a nearvertical position for 10 min, wipe off the bead, and continuedrying in a vertical position at standard conditions for 24 h.NOTE 2The drying time, counted from the time of application of thesecond coat, may be varied from 24 h, but it should be remembered th
10、atsome floor polishes which have suitable water spotting resistance duringtheir normal service life do not achieve this resistance until 24 to 48 h afterapplication.7. Procedure7.1 Dynamic TestStandard conditions of 50 6 4 % rela-tive humidity and 23.9 6 1.1C (75 6 2F) should prevail inthe test area
11、. Place the panel in a horizontal position makingsure that the top is level. Place 1 mL of distilled water near thecenter of the panel, and allow it to stand undisturbed for 1 h.1This test method is under the jurisdiction ofASTM Committee D21 on Polishesand is the direct responsibility of Subcommitt

Rub a small piece of drycloth very lightly over the area to remove

Allow to stand undisturbedfor 1 h and observe (Note 3).7.2 Static TestStandard conditions of 50 6 4 % relativehumidity and 23.9 6 1.1C (75 6 2F) should prevail in thetest area. Place one drop of distilled water on the panel near thecenter. Allow the
17、 drop of water to evaporate to dryness (Note4). Do not disturb this test area in any way with either a wet ordry cloth. Allow to stand 1 h after area is apparently dry andobserve.NOTE 3Hand buffing of the test area of the film is permitted prior toobservation.NOTE 4The normal period of evaporation i
18、s from 1 to 3 h dependingon such factors as the area wet by the drop of water, solubilitycharacteristics of the film, etc.8. Precision and Bias8.1 This test method consistently differentiates the polishwith poor water-spot resistance from polishes with goodwater-spot resistance with an acceptable di
19、fferentiation ofpolishes that are very close together. It has been found tocorrelate well with floor experience.8.2 Since there is no accepted reference material suitable fordetermining the bias for the procedure for measuring the waterspotting of emulsion floor polishes, bias has not been deter-min
