Summary of Test Method3.1 Concentrated or diluted cooling system chemical solu-tions are brought into contact with organic finishes typical
7、ofthose used on automobiles for1hatroom temperature. Thesurface of the finish then is inspected visually for any of thesurface changes mentioned in Section 4.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method will distinguish between cooling sys-tem chemical solutions that do or do not have a tendency toch
8、ange the surface appearance when applied to organic finishesused on vehicles. Such changes may be manifested by discol-oration, loss of gloss, softening, swelling, or other similarphenomena.5. Materials5.1 Test PanelsSteel panels, approximately 100 by 150mm (4 by 6 in.) shall be prepared in accordan
9、ce with theMethods of Preparation of Practice D 609. The surface of thetest panels shall be roughened to 0.25 to 0.50 m (10 to 20 in.)prior to applying the organic finish. These panels shall becoated with an organic finish of the type used on vehicles suchas clear coated and non-clear coated thermos
10、et urethane andacrylic urethane finishes. Other finishes may be used uponagreement between the customer and supplier.6. Test Solution6.1 The coolant to be tested shall be either a concentrate ora dilution. Sufficient ASTM Type IV water shall be added toyield a solution of 50 % concentration by volum
11、e in accor-dance with Test Method D 1176, section on Preparation ofSolutions Requiring Inclusion of Separated Solids and Liquids.Any separated solids or liquids shall be included in the testmaterial.6.2 Other cooling system chemicals shall be tested bothwithout dilution and at a typical use concentr
12、ation as indicatedby instructions on the label. Any separated solids or liquidsshall be included in the test material.7. Procedure7.1 Conduct the test at 25 6 5C without humidity control.7.2 Select a test panel prepared in accordance with Section5. Place sufficient test solution on the surface of th
13、e test panelto form spots approximately 25 mm (1 in.) in diameter.7.3 After 1 h, wipe the surface with a wet cloth, buff with asoft, dry cloth and examine the finish for visual and physicalevidence of the effects listed in Section 4.7.4 Lightly polish the test surface with any well-knownliquid car c
14、leaner.
