Scope1.1 This practice covers the preparation of concrete blocksused for testing of joint and crack sealants for portland cement

Refer to the specificstandard material specification of interest to determine whichtests apply and refer to the test methods for each specific

Significance and Use3.1 It is intended that this practice may be used bymanufacturers, users, and testing agencies. The use of thispractice establishes a uniform procedure for preparing concre

7、teblocks for the testing of sealants. It is not intended to establishtest procedures or conditions of test which are associated witheach of the joint sealants.4. Standard Conditions4.1 The laboratory atmospheric conditions, hereinafter re-ferred to as standard conditions, shall be in accordance with

8、Specification E171, (23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F) and 50 % 6 5%relative humidity).5. Concrete Block Preparation35.1 MaterialsThe aggregate shall conform to Specifica-tion C33, except as specified herein. The aggregate gradingshall be as shown in Table 1. The coarse aggregate shall consistof crushed limesto

9、ne (plus 95 % CaCO3) having a waterabsorption of not more than 1.5 %. The fine aggregate shallconsist of crushed limestone and shall be manufactured fromthe same parent rock as the coarse aggregate.4The portlandcement shall conform to ASTM Specification C150, Type II.The concrete shall have a water-

10、cement ratio of 0.49, a cementfactor of 335 6 30 kg/m3(6.0 6 0.5 bags of cement per cubicyard), and a slump of 63 6 13 mm (212 612 in.). The ratio offine aggregate to total aggregate shall be approximately 40 %by solid volume. The air content shall be 5.0 6 0.5 % and shallbe obtained by the addition

11、 to the batch of an air-entrainingagent. Prepare the concrete in accordance with the proceduredescribed in Test Method C192/C192M.5.1.1 Alternate Block MaterialsAs an alternate to thematerials specified in 5.1, the blocks may be prepared using aconcrete mixture which meets local requirements for con

12、cretepavements.
