For definitions of other, textileterminology used in this standard refer to Terminology D123.4. Summary of Test Method4.1 The effects of corrosion on zippers, should it occur,

9、 areevaluated visually and by measuring the crosswise strength andthe force required to open and close the zipper both before andafter exposure in a prescribed salt-spray atmosphere for aspecified time.5. Significance and Use5.1 The resistance of a zipper to a variety of saline andnon-saline environ

10、ments can be estimated from the amount andnature of corrosion products and their effect on operability.Results of exposure to the salt spray are merely indicative ofthe reaction to other corrosive conditions. While the resultscannot be related precisely to a given length of exposure in aspecific atm

11、osphere, they are useful for measuring relativeperformance under prescribed conditions for controlling amanufacturing process, and for measuring the effectiveness ofprotective coatings.5.2 Test Method D2059 for the determination of the resis-tance of zippers to salt spray is considered satisfactory

12、foracceptance testing of commercial shipments of zippers becausethe test method is used extensively in the trade for acceptancetesting.5.2.1 If there are differences of practical significance be-tween reported test results for two laboratories (or more),comparative test should be performed to determ

As a minimum, the test samples should be used that areas homogeneous as possible, that are drawn from the materialfrom which the disparate test results were obtained, and thatare randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory fortesting. Other materials

17、with established test values may beused for this purpose. The test results from the two laboratoriesshould be compared using a statistical test for unpaired data, ata probability level chosen prior to the testing series. If a bias isfound, either its cause must be found and corrected, or futuretest

18、results must be adjusted in consideration of the knownbias.5.3 The method(s) in the standard along with those in TestMethods D2051, D2052, D2053, D2054, D2057, D2058,D2060, D2061, and D2062 are a collection of proven testmethods. They can be used as aids in the evaluation of zipperswithout the need

19、for a thorough knowledge of zippers. Theenumerated test methods do not provide for the evaluation ofall zipper properties. Besides those properties measured bymeans of the enumerated test methods there are other proper-ties that may be important for the satisfactory performance ofa zipper. Test meth

20、ods for measuring those properties have notbeen published either because no practical methods have yetbeen developed or because a valid evaluation of the informa-tion resulting from existing unpublished methods requires anintimate and thorough knowledge of zippers.6. Apparatus6.1 Apparatus specified

21、 in Method B117.7. Reagents7.1 Salt SolutionPrepare a 5 % salt (NaCl) solution asdirected in Method B117.8. Sampling8.1 Lot SampleAs a lot sample for acceptance testing, takeat random the number of individual containers from eachshipping carton as directed in an applicable material specifi-cation or

22、 other agreement between the purchaser and thesupplier. Consider individual containers from each shippingcarton to be the primary sampling units.NOTE 1If the wide variability of quality suggested in A2.2 of AnnexA2 of Method B117 is suspected, the agreement on taking a lot sampleshould be based on M

23、IL-STD-105D. An adequate specification or otheragreement between the purchaser and the supplier requires taking intoaccount the variability between shipping cartons and zippers within acontainer to provide a sampling plan with a meaningful producers risk,acceptable quality level, and limiting qualit

24、y level.8.2 Laboratory Sample and Test SpecimensAs a labora-tory sample for acceptance testing, take two zippers at randomfrom each container in the lot sample. Use these zippers as thetest specimens for a unit in the laboratory sample.9. Test Specimens9.1 From each laboratory sample take duplicate

25、specimensconsisting of a completely assembled zipper of 150-mm 6-in.minimum length or a similar length of chain equipped with anappropriate slider. Set one specimen aside to serve as controlfor the determination of crosswise strength and operabilitywithout being exposed to salt spray.10. Conditionin

26、g10.1 Specimens to be tested by use of this method need noconditioning.11. Procedure11.1 Proceed as directed in Method B117.11.2 Open the specimen for one half its length and suspendit in a vertical plane, opened end down, from a rod in thesalt-spray chamber. Take care that any suspension devices us

27、eddo not introduce corrosive effects. When a number of speci-mens are tested simultaneously, take care to keep the speci-mens from touching each other and to avoid having corrosionproducts and condensate from one specimen fall on another.11.3 Close the salt-spray chamber and bring the insidetemperat

28、ure within the range 33 to 36C 92 to 97F andmaintain the temperature within this range throughout the test.11.4 Expose the specimens in the chamber to the salt sprayfor a continuous period of 24 h, after which, remove thespecimens from the salt-spray chamber. Gently rinse or dip thespecimens in a st

29、ream of tap water at room temperature andthen blow off excess water with air free from entrainedmoisture.11.5 Place the specimens on a horizontal surface such as amuslin-covered frame and allow them to dry under roomconditions. When dry, examine the specimens, visually noteand record the presence or

30、 absence of any corrosion.11.6 After the inspection, manually operate the slider for tencomplete opening and closing cycles if possible.11.7 Test both the exposed specimen and the controlspecimen, which had been set aside (see 9.1), for crosswisestrength as directed in Test Methods D2061 and for ope

31、ningand closing operability as directed in Test Methods D2062.Record the results of these tests.12. Report12.1 State that the specimens were tested as directed inASTM Test Method D2059. Describe the material(s) or prod-uct(s) sampled and the method of sampling used.12.2 Report the following informat

32、ion:12.2.1 Presence or absence of any corrosion after exposureto the salt spray.12.2.2 Crosswise strength of each specimen,12.2.3 Forces required to open and to close each specimen,and12.2.4 Number and description of specimens tested.13.
