Scope1.1 This test method covers an accelerated procedure forevaluating the print resistance of architectural paints. It differsfrom pr

Summary of Test Method4.1 A piece of cheesecloth is placed on the painted surfaceand topped with a No. 8 rubber stopper (position smallerdiameter of stopper on the cheesecloth) and a 500-g weight tocreate a

Significance and Use5.1 The ability of a coating to resist printing is importantbecause its appearance is adversely affected if the smoothnessof the coating film is altered by contact with another surface, particularly one with a texture. Interior paint systems, particu-l

10、arly gloss and semigloss on window sills and other horizontalsurfaces, often have objects such as flower pots placed on themthat may tend to leave a permanent impression. This tendencyfor a paint film to “print” is a function of the hardness of thecoating, the pressure, temperature, humidity, and th

It is recommended that control paints ofknown satisfactory and unsatisfactory performance be used ineach test run and that the tests be run in duplicate.7.4 Place the entire assembly in the oven and remove it afterexactly 1 h. Immediately lift off the weights and stopperswithout disturbing

Notethe depth and amount of cheesecloth pattern left in the paintfilm. If necessary examine the panel, for better perception ofindentations, by viewing

However, based on actuallaboratory experience, with experienced operators, the repeat-ability is estimated to be plus or

The employ-ment of common control paints with mutually agreed ratingsshould make it possible for interlaboratory agreement (repro-ducibility) to approach intralaboratory agreement (repeatabil-ity).
