4、inPigments3. Composition and Properties3.1 Dry PigmentThe pigment shall be made by burningoils or tars in such a manner as to form a deposit of carbon orsoot. It shall be high grade in every respect and shall be freefrom oil, greasy matter, and admixture of any other substance.The pigment shall conf
5、orm to the following requirements:Ash, max, % 0.5Acetone extract, max, % 1.0Moisture and other volatile matter, max, % 3.0Coarse particles, (total residue retained on a45-m (No. 325) sieve), max, %0.5Tone when diluted with zinc oxide clear-blue-gray3.2 Paste in OilThe paste in oil shall be made byth
6、oroughly grinding the specified pigment with linseed oil. Asreceived it shall not be caked in the container, and shall breakup readily in oil to form a smooth paint of brushing consis-tency. It shall mix readily in all proportions, without curdling,with linseed oil, turpentine, or volatile petroleum
7、 spirits, or anymixture of these substances. The paste shall conform to thefollowing requirements:Pigment, min, % 25Linseed oil, max, % 75Moisture and other volatile matter, max, % 0.7Coarse particles and skins (total residue retained on a45-m (No. 325) sieve), max, % of the dry pigment1.03.3 The ma
8、ss color and character of the tint and the tintingstrength formed by a mixture with a white pigment shall bewithin mutually agreed- upon limits of a standard acceptable toboth the purchaser and the seller.4. Sampling4.1 Two samples shall be taken at random from differentpackages from each lot, batch
9、, days pack, or other unit ofproduction in a shipment. When no markings distinguishingbetween units of production appear, samples shall be takenfrom different packages in the ratio of two samples for each10 000 lb (4540 kg), except that for shipments of less than10 000 lb two samples shall be taken.
10、 At the option of thepurchaser, the samples may be tested separately or afterblending in equal quantities the samples from the sameproduction unit to form a composite sample.5. Test Methods5.1 Tests shall be conducted in accordance with the follow-ing test methods. Test procedures not covered by AST
