Scope1.1 This specification covers glass fel
3、ts impregnated tovarying degrees with asphalt intended to be used with asphaltsconforming to the requirements of Specification D312 in theconstruction of built-up roofs, and with asphalts conforming tothe requirements of Specification D449 in the construction ofwaterproofing systems.1.2 The values s

The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The felt shall be a thin, porous sheet of uniformlydistributed glass fibe
9、rs, with or without the addition of rein-forcing stranded glass yarns, and bonded with a water-resistantresinous binder.5.2 In the process of manufacture, the felt shall be impreg-nated with asphalt which shall be permitted to contain amineral stabilizer so that the individual glass fibers are coate
10、dand the asphalt is evenly distributed throughout.5.3 The impregnated glass felt shall be surfaced with amaterial to prevent sticking in the roll. The nature and quantityof the surfacing material shall not interfere with adhesionbetween the plies of a membrane.6. Physical Properties, Dimensions, and
11、 Masses6.1 The material shall conform to the physical properties,dimensions, and masses prescribed in Table 1 and Table 2.6.2 The finished product shall not crack nor be so sticky asto cause tearing or other damage upon being unrolled attemperatures between 10 and 60C 50 and 140F.6.3 After extractio
12、n of the asphalt in accordance withSection 16 of Test Methods D146, the desaturated felt shallremain flat and unbuckled, shall retain its original shape anddimensions, and individual fibers shall remain firmly set inplace.6.4 The pliability specimen shall be conditioned in air at 256 1C 77 6 2F, 50

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The finished material shall be uniformly impregnatedwith asphalt of uniform thickness, and shall be free of visibledefects such as ragged or untrue edges,
17、breaks, cracks, tears,and protuberances.7.2 Type IV shall contain closely spaced pinholes not over0.8 mm 132 in. in diameter over the entire area of the felt.Individual holes up to 6.4 mm 14 in. in diameter shall bepermitted, provided that no more than five such holes are foundin any 1.0 m21.2 yd2 o
18、f felt.7.3 Type VI shall be permitted to contain closely spacedholes over the entire area of the felt up to 3 mm 18 in. indiameter.7.4 The finished material shall be furnished with layinglines, which shall be clearly visible in use, and spaced atappropriate distances apart to provide for application
19、 ofbuilt-up roofs with the appropriate number of plies.8. Sampling and Test Methods8.1 Sample the material and determine the properties enu-merated in this specification in accordance with Test MethodsD146, except for the net dry mass of asphalt-impregnated glassfelt.8.2 Net Dry Mass of Asphalt-Impr
20、egnated Glass FeltCut arepresentative sample from the full width of each sample roll asdescribed in Section 10 of Test Methods D146. Suspend thesamples vertically and allow them to dry to constant weight.Remove the detached comminuted surfacing as described inSection 11 of Test Methods D146. Then we
21、igh each sample offelt and calculate the individual and average net dry mass perunit area.8.3 AshDetermine ash by ignition at 538 6 14C 1000 625F for not less than 10 min.9. Inspection9.1 InspectionInspection shall be in accordance with therequirements of this specification.9.2 Inspection Alternativ
22、esAlternative inspection require-ments shall be detemined by and as agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier.10. Rejection and Resubmittal10.1 Failure to ConformFailure to conform to any of therequirements as stated in this specification constitutes groundsfor rejection.10.2 Rejection Redre
23、ssThe supplier shall have the right toinspect the rejected materials. The supplier and the purchasershall agree to the quantity of rolls deemed unacceptable. Thesupplier shall then have the right to submit the same number ofnew rolls as replacement.11. Packaging and Package Marking11.1 Unless otherw
24、ise agreed upon between the supplier andpurchaser, each product package shall be plainly marked withthe suppliers name, product brand, ASTM designation, andtype of bitumen if not evident in the label name of the product.11.2 The rolls shall be securely wrapped or banded in amanner that completely en
25、circles the roll and will preventslipping or unrolling.11.3 No roll shall contain more than two pieces, and nomore than 3 % of the rolls in any lot shall contain two pieces.If a roll contains a manufacturing splice, the splice shall beclearly marked.12.
