6、Significance and Use4.1 Excessive sealant slump or sag in a vertical joint maycause improper bead shape or inadequate sealant thickness inthe completed joint. Slump measurements, as described in thistest method, serve to evaluate only this application character-istic; they do not predict the perform

Apparatus5.1 Flow Test Jig, constructed in accordance with Fig. 1 (SIunits) or Fig. 2 (inch-pound units).NOTE 2Most existing flow test jigs have been constructed in inch-pound units. Preferred construction of new jigs is as described in Fig. 1 inSI

8、 units.5.2 Gravity Convection Oven, having a temperature con-trolled at 50 6 2C (122 6 3.6F).5.3 Steel Spatula:5.4 Plastic Scraper, such as an ordinary 114 by 114-mm(412 by 412-in.) plastic tile.6. Reagent6.1 Solvent, such as methyl ethyl ketone.7. Sampling7.1 Take test specimens from a previously u

9、nopened con-tainer and mix thoroughly before using, if required for homo-geneity.8. Conditioning8.1 Condition both the test jig and the sealant to be testedfor at least5hat236 2C (73.4 6 3.6F).9. Procedure9.1 Thoroughly clean the test jig with the solvent; then placeit on a level table with the fron

10、t face upward and the plungerdepressed to the limit of its travel.9.2 Place the mixed, conditioned sealant in the jig cavity.Level the sealant flush with the surface of the block, using onegentle upward stroke of the plastic scraper held at a 45 angle.Avoid forming air pockets in the sealant, especi

11、ally near thesurface of the plunger.9.3 Carefully clean the area around the cavity with theplastic scraper and a cloth; then place the jig immediately on itsend and advance the plunger gently to one half its maximum1This test method is under the jurisdiction ofASTM Committee C24 on BuildingSeals and

15、mmediately in a vertical position on a levelshelf in the oven and condition it for 30 min at 50 6 2C (1226 3.6F), taking care to avoid any movement or vibration ofthe oven during this period.9.5 At the conclusion of the 30-min period, take a reading,to the nearest 0.2 mm (0.01 in.) of the maximum po

20、 much as 1.07 mm (0.042 in.) can beexpected between two test results obtained by the sameoperator on the same material.11.1.2 Reproducibility for Oil-Based SealantsAt 95 %confidence, a variation of as much as 1.93 mm (0.076 in.) canbe expected between two test results obtained by differentoperators

21、in different laboratories on the same material.11.1.3 The data for oil based sealants was generated bytesting each sealant in triplicate, whereas the procedure in thistest method specifies only duplicate testing. Duplicate testingmay yield more variable results than indicated in Table 1.11.1.4 Repea

22、tability for Solvent-Release SealantsAt 95 %confidence, a variation of as much as 1.35 mm (0.053 in.) canbe expected between two test results obtained by the sameoperator on the same material.11.1.5 Reproducibility for Solvent Release SealantsAt95 % confidence, a variation of as much as 1.88 mm (0.0
