Scope1.1 This specification covers asphalt roofi

8、re5.1 In the process of manufacture, a single thickness of dryfelt shall be impregnated with a hot asphaltic saturant, thencoated on both sides with a hot asphaltic coating, and finallysurfaced on the weather side with mineral granules. Laminatedshingles need have mineral granules only on the weathe

9、r sideof the laminate. The reverse side shall be covered with asuitable material to prevent the shingles from sticking togetherin the package.5.2 The felt shall be produced primarily from organic fibers.The surface of the felt shall be uniform and relatively smooth.Upon splitting or tearing on the b

10、ias, the felt shall appearreasonably free of lumps of underbeaten stock and particles offoreign substances.5.3 The asphaltic coating may be compounded with a finemineral stabilizer substantially insoluble in water.6. Physical Requirements6.1 During handling and application, the shingles shall notcra

11、ck at ambient temperatures above 10C (50F) nor be sosticky at temperatures below 60C (140F) as to cause tearingor other material damage upon being unpacked.6.2 Loss and Behavior on HeatingThe shingles shallconform to the physical requirements prescribed in Table 2.1This specification is under the ju

Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations7.1 The style and dimensions of the shingles shall be asagreed upon by the purchaser and the seller as part of thepurchase contract. Shingles shall not vary more than 66mm(14 in.) from nominal

15、 dimensions established for each style andsize.7.2 The shingles shall conform to the masses prescribed inTable 1.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The felt (each felt in a laminated shingle) shall bethoroughly and uniformly saturated and shall show no unsat-urated spots at any point upon cut

16、ting 50-mm (2-in.) widestrips at random across the entire shingle and splitting themopen to their full length.8.2 The weather side shall be uniform in finish and texture,but may be embossed to simulate a wood grain. The mineralgranules shall be uniformly distributed in a smooth layer overthe entire

17、surface and shall be firmly embedded in the asphaltcoating. The mineral granules shall not have ruptured the feltfibers as a result of embedment or embossing.8.3 The reverse side coating and the material applied toprevent the shingles from sticking together shall be uniformover the entire surface.8.

18、4 The finished shingles shall be free of visible defectssuch as holes, ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears,protuberances, and indentations.9. Sampling and Test Methods9.1 Sample the material and determine the properties pre-scribed in Table 1 in accordance with Test Method D 228 anddetermi

Inspection10.1 Inspection of the material shall be as agreed upon bythe purchaser and the supplier as part of the purchase contract.11. Rejection and Resubmittal11.1 Failure to conform to the

21、requirements prescribed inthis specification shall constitute grounds for rejection. In caseof rejection, the supplier shall have the right to reinspect therejected material and resubmit the lot after removal of thosepackages not conforming to the requirements.12. Packaging and Marking12.1 Shingles

22、shall be packed for shipment to ensure accep-tance by common carrier for interstate transportation and toafford adequate protection from the normal hazards of han-dling.12.2 Packages shall be plainly marked with the name andbrand of the producer or supplier; the area of roof surfacecovered; and the

23、style, type, and color of the product. Direc-tions for application shall be included in at least every squareor every third package of shingles.13.
