、case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This sp
、ecification covers nonrigid vinyl chloride poly-mer and copolymer classes in which the resin portion of thecomposition contains at least 90 % vinyl chloride. The remain-ing 10 % may include one or more monomers copolymerizedwith vinyl chloride or consist of other resins mechanicallyblended with poly
、vinyl chloride or copolymers thereof.1.2 These nonrigid vinyl compounds are defined by ahardness range and include the necessary stabilizers, plasticiz-ers, fillers, dyes, and pigments to meet the designated require-ments.1.3 This specification includes nonrigid vinyl chloride com-pounds recommended
、 for compression molding, injectionmolding, and extrusion, but it must be recognized that particu-lar compounds may not be suitable for all these means offabrication.NOTE 1This standard is similar in content, but not technicallyequivalent to ISO 2898-1:1986 and ISO 2898-2:1989.1.4 The values stated
、in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and h

、 Test Specimens and Determina-tion of Properties3. Terminology3.1 GeneralDefinitions are in accordance with Terminol-ogy D883 and abbreviations with Terminology D1600, unlessotherwise indicated.4. Classification4.1 Provision is made in this specification for the identifi-cation of vinyl chloride pol
、ymers and copolymers by use ofTerminology D1600. Additionally, there is provision for dis-tinguishing electrical grades and burning rate by suffix. Thesystem of classification provided in Table 1 permits character-ization and identification of all compounds having propertieswithin the ranges of the
、combinations that may be selectedfrom the table. Following type identification in accordancewith Terminology D1600, grades are designated by the cellnumber for each property in the order in which they are listedin Table 1, including the suffixes identifying electrical gradesand flammability when req
、uired. When a property is notspecified, a “0” is entered as the cell number unless identifi-cation is terminated prior to that point.NOTE 2The manner in which selected materials are identified isillustrated by the examples given below:NOTE 3The cell-type format provides means for close characteriza-
、tion and specification of material properties, alone or in combination, fora broad range of materials. This format, however, is subject to possiblemisapplication since unobtainable property combinations can be selectedif the user is not familiar with commercially available materials. Themanufacturer
、 should be consulted.5. General Requirements5.1 Material shall be of uniform composition and be socompounded as to meet the requirements designated for it.5.2 The designated material shall contain the ingredientsnecessary to permit satisfactory processing with appropriateequipment under recommended
、or commercially acceptableconditions. There shall be no separation of components underconditions of application normal for these compounds.6. Significance and Use6.1 Means for selecting and identifying nonrigid vinylchloride compounds are provided in Table 1. The propertiesenumerated in this table a
、nd the tests defined are expected toprovide identification of the compounds selected. They are notnecessarily suitable for direct application in design because ofdifferences in shape of part, size, loading, environmentalconditions, etc. Only when specimens are molded in accor-dance with 11.1.1 can c
、omparative data be expected. The testsselected may be employed for inspection or quality controlprovided that they are performed strictly in accordance with theinstructions given herein and in the designated methods so thatextraneous variables are minimized and results are reproducedwithin the limit
、s of variability of the material being examinedand of the tests used for its examination.7. Detail Requirements7.1 Compliance with the designated requirements shall bedetermined with test specimens prepared of sheets molded inaccordance with 11.1.1 of this specification.7.2 Test values for specimens
、 so prepared shall comply withthe designated requirements as given in Table 1.7.3 Subject to agreement between the purchaser and theseller, tests may be made on specimens prepared of finishedmolded articles. Results of such tests may not agree with thevalues given in Table 1. Therefore, in reports o

Contractual Requirements8.1 Nonrigid vinyl chloride plastics ordinarily are suppliedin either diced or granulated form. Particle size shall be asagreed between the
