Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers a thermoplastic jacketing com-pound for 2 to 35 kV wire and c

3、able, of at least 0.030 in. (0.76mm) nominal thickness, consisting substantially of pigmentedpolyethylene.1.2 In many instances the jacket material cannot be testedunless it has been formed around a conductor or cable.Therefore, tests done on jacketed wire and cable in thisspecification are solely t

4、o determine the relevant property ofthe jacket material and not to test the jacketed conductor orcompleted cable.1.3 Whenever two sets of values are presented, in differentunits, the values in the first set are the standard, while those inparentheses are for information only.2. Physical Properties4.1 The polyethylene before application to the wire or cableshall comply with the requirements for Type I, Class C,Category 4 or 5, Grade E5 or J3 of Specification D 1248,orClass B with equivalent weathering requirements to

8、Class Cmaterials. The requirements of Specification D 1248 shall notapply to the jacket removed from the wire or cable. Thecompound is suitable for exposure to sunlight and otheratmospheric environments at temperatures between 55and +75 C, and a minimum installation temperature of 40C.4.2 Specimens

9、removed from the wire or cable and tested at20 to 28 C (68 to 82 F) shall conform to the requirements forphysical properties specified in Table 1. Alternatively, thejacket shall be air-oven aged without removal from theconductor.4.3 Environmental Stress-Cracking Test The jacket shallconform to the r

10、equirements for Grade E5 as specified inTable 3 of Specification D 1248.4.4 Absorption CoeffcientSee Test Method D 3349. In-stead of testing the jacket removed from the conductors, acertification by the polyethylene compound manufacturer thatthis requirement has been complied with shall suffice.5. E

11、lectrical Properties5.1 The polyethylene jacket shall conform to the require-ments for electrical properties specified in Table 2.6. Sampling6.1 Unless otherwise instructed, sample the jacket in accor-dance with Test Methods D 2633.7. Test Methods7.1 Unless otherwise instructed, test the jacket in a

16、resent shall be considered to meet therequirements of this specification.8.2 If any specimen fails to pass these tests, the length ofcable from which the specimen was taken shall be consideredas not meeting the requirements of this specification. Retestnew specimens from each of two other lengths of

17、 cable fromthe lot of cable under test. If either of the second specimensfails to pass the test, consider the lot of cable as not meeting therequirements of this specification. If both such second speci-mens pass the test, consider the lot of cable (except the lengthrepresented by the first specimen

18、) to meet the requirements ofthis specification.8.3 Failure of any specimen shall not preclude resamplingand retesting the length of cable from which the originalspecimen was taken.9.
