Significance and Use3.1 This test method determines the size distribution of cokefor conformance to specifications of percentages retained ondesignated screen sizes.4. Apparatus4.1

8、SievesUse square-hole sieves conforming to Specifi-cation E11. Where sieves larger than 100 mm 4 in. arerequired, the specifications for same shall be by mutualagreement between interested parties. Permissible variations insieve openings and spacings shall be in accordance withSpecification E11.4.1.

9、1 For complete characterization of the size range of acoke sample, the number and size of the selected sieves shouldbe such that no more than 25 % of the gross sample mass orweight will be retained on any given sieve.4.1.2 For coke 38.1 mm 112 in. and larger in size, sievesof heavy double-crimped wi

10、re and square or rectangular frameswith 0.56 m2to 0.84 m26 ft2to9ft2 of sieve area aresatisfactory. For coke smaller than 38.1 mm 112 in. in size,sieves of double-crimped wire and square or circular frameswith 0.19 m2to 0.37 m22 ft2to4ft2 of sieve area are usuallymore convenient.4.2 Weighing Balance

11、, preferably of the platform type,having a sensitivity of 0.025 kg 0.05 lb or better, at ratedcapacity and with graduations such that 0.05 kg 0.1 lb can beread without interpolation.5. Test Sample5.1 The test sample shall be taken in accordance withPractice D346/D346M.6. Procedure6.1 Starting with t

12、he sieve having the largest opening, sievethe sample of coke in quantities small enough to preventplugging and clogging of the sieve.6.1.1 Hand-fit each piece of coke retained on the 38.1 mm112 in. or larger sieve. A piece is considered undersize if, insome position and without forcing, it passes th

13、e sieve opening.6.1.2 Shake vigorously on each succeeding sieve cokepieces passing the 38.1 mm 112 in. sieve. 18、priate sieve and to avoid degradation of thenaturally occurring sizes.6.2 Record to the nearest 0.05 kg 0.1 lb the mass weightof coke retained on each sieve and that which passes thesmallest sieve used. For routine testing, the sum of all thesize-fraction masses weights may be taken as the total mas

19、sweight of coke tested.6.2.1 Samples containing pieces retained on 50 mm 2 in.sieves and larger need not be dried. However, when a higherdegree of accuracy is desired, dry the gross sample to less than1 % moisture and accurately weigh before sieving. Dry allsamples of coke containing only pieces whi

20、ch pass a 50 mm2 in. sieve to less than 1 % moisture before testing.7. Report7.1 Report the masses weights of the size fractions as apercentage of the mass weight of the gross sample. Calculatepercentage to the nearest 0.1 %. Record the results startingwith the fraction of largest sieve size, which

21、may be shown forseparate fractions or cumulatively.7.2 For those tests in which the gross sample is weighedbefore sieving, the sum of the masses or weights of all sizefractions should equal the measured gross mass weight. Incases in which the cumulative mass weight of size fractionsdiffers from the

22、initial gross mass weight by 0.5 % or less ofthe gross mass weight, adjustment can be made in the massweight of the size fraction passing the smallest sieve size.With careful procedure, this difference should not exceed0.5 %.8. Precision and Bias8.1 RepeatabilityThe precision of this test method isb

23、eing investigated by a task group. At this time the values havenot been determined.8.2 ReproducibilityNo precision statement has been de-veloped for this test method because of the impracticality ofobtaining, transporting, and handling representative splits ofthe materials in the quantities that wou

24、ld be needed to establishthe precision statement.8.3 BiasThe lack of a reference material precludes a biasstatement.9.
