Scope*1.1 This specification covers requirements for plasticizedcellulose acetate butyrate thermoplastic compounds suitablefor inject
3、ion molding and extrusion. These compounds have abutyryl content less than 38 % and an acetyl content less than15 % and may or may not contain dyes and pigments. Thisspecification does not include special materials compoundedfor special applications. Cellulosic plastic materials, beingthermoplastic,
4、 are reprocessable and recyclable. This specifi-cation allows for the use of those cellulosic materials, providedthat all specific requirements of this specification are met.1.2 The properties included in this specification are thoserequired to identify the compositions covered. There may beother re

Materialselection should be made by those having expertise in theplastic field after careful consideration of the design andperformance required of the part, environment to which it willbe exposed,
7、fabrication process to be employed, costs in-volved, and inherent properties of the material other than thosecovered by this classification system.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard.1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest method portion, Section
8、12, of this specification. Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. Materials and Manufacture6.1 Materials supplied in these forms shall be as uniform incomposition and size, and as free of contamination, as can beachieved by good manufacturing practice.6.2 These materials may contain colorants in the nominalamounts ordinarily

Sampling8.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of 12.4.8.2 A batch or lot shall be constituted as a unit of manufac-ture as prepared for shipment and may consist of a blend of twoor more “production runs.”9. The average results from those samples shall complywith the requirements prescribed

Theprimary reason for drying the material is to eliminate visualdefects such as surface imperfections and bubb
31、les. Materialspread in a tray to a maximum depth of 50 mm and exposed ina circulating-air oven at 75 to 90C for 3 h should besatisfactory. Formulations containing either very low or veryhigh levels of plasticizer may require slightly higher or lowerdrying temperatures respectively. Control the injec
32、tion mold-ing cycles in accordance with Practice D 3641, using a materialtemperature of 25 to 35C above the “cold point.” (The “coldD707052point” is the lowest material temperature at which it is possibleto obtain a full shot when all other operating variables are heldconstant within the normal oper
33、ating range.) Mold tempera-tures between 35 and 60C have been found desirable. As arule, thin-section moldings and higher hardness materials(lower plasticizer content) require higher mold temperatures.10.3 Test specimens injection molded from cellulosic ma-terials are subject to “overpacking” if the
34、 gate size is too large, and this can result in brittleness in the gate area as well asthroughout the entire specimen. To avoid this, the gate sizeshould be significantly smaller than those recommended inPractice D 3641. A gate size 1.5 mm square has been found toproduce satisfactory test specimens.1
