1、Designation: D 801 02 (Reapproved 2009)Standard Test Methods forSampling and Testing Dipentene1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 801; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A
2、number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 These test methods cover procedures for sampling andtesting dipentene and related terpene solvents, consistingchiefly of monocyclic ter

Significance and Use3.1 The testing procedures described in these test methodshave been in use for many years and emphasize the physicalproperties rather than the chemical composition of dipentene. These procedures were sufficient whe
8、n dipentene was usedprimarily as a solvent. Currently, however, dipentene findsapplication as a chemical raw material and a knowledge of itschemical composition is therefore important. Test MethodsD 6387 describe a capillary gas chromatography method whichis suitable for determining both the major a
9、nd minor compo-nents found in dipentene.4. Sampling4.1 Sample the material in accordance with the proceduredescribed in Guide D 268 and Practice E 300. If a sample fromclose to the bottom of a tank shows a decided difference incolor or appearance from samples taken at other depths, take anextra bott

Detection and Removal of Separated Water5.1 Draw a portion of the dipentene by means of a glass ormetal container with a removable stopper or top,3or
11、with athief, from the lowest part of the container, or by opening thebottom valve of the level tank car. If water is found to bepresent, draw it all out, record the quantity, and deduct it fromthe total volume of liquid delivered.6. Appearance6.1 Examine a portion of the sample after agitation todet

Color7.1 Compare the color of the sample in any suitable ordesignated apparatus with the accepted or specific color1These test methods are under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D01 onPaint and Related Coatings, Materials, an

Accepted color standards are the Gardner color scalefound in Test Method D 6166 and the platinum-cobalt scalefound in Test Method D 1209.8. Odor8.1 Compare the odor of the sample with an agreed uponwater-free reference sam

In the absence of such a referencesample, compare with samples of known purity similarlypreserved.8.2 The use of an odor panel made up of personnel trainedto smell terpenic odors is recommended.9. Specific Gravity9.1 Determine the spe

If tested atany other temperature, correct the reading obtained to 20C byadding or subtracting 0.00045 for each degree Celsius that thetemperatur

The referenced method (Test Meth-ods D 6387) employs capillary column technology.12. Flash Point12.1 Determine the flash point by

Moisture13.1 The recommended method for the determination ofdissolved water uses the Karl Fischer reagent and is describedin Test Method D 890. This method is more rapid than thedistillation method described in 13.2 and is app

Precision and Bias14.1 Some of the procedures described in these test methodswere develop

Currently these testmethods are less widely used and it is not considered practicalto determine the precision and bias of the individual testmethods at this time.14.2 Where reference is made to other ASTM test meth
