Composition and Properties3.1 Dry PigmentThe pigment shall be free of adulterantsand shall contain not more than traces of impurities incident towell-controlled manufacture of high-grade basic carbona
5、tewhite lead. The pigment shall conform to the followingrequirements:Lead carbonate, % 62 to 75Moisture and other volatile matter, max, % 0.7Total other impurities, max, % 1.0Coarse particles (total residue retained on a No.325 (45-m) sieve), max, %1.03.2 Paste in OilThe paste shall be made by thoro
6、ughlygrinding the specified pigment with linseed oil. The paste shallnot be caked in the container and shall break up readily in oilto form a smooth paint of brushing consistency. 7、 matter, max, % 0.7Coarse particles and skins (total residue retained on aNo. 325 (45-m) sieve), max, % of the drypigment1.53.3 Semipaste Containing Volatile ThinnerThe semipasteshall be made by thoroughly grinding the specified pigmentwith a mixture of linseed oil and a small amount of volatilethin

The semipaste shall not be caked in the container andshall be readily stirred to a uniform mixture which shall mixreadily with oil, turpentine, or volatile petroleum spirits to forma smooth paint of brushing consistency. The odor of thesemipaste, as taken from the container, while drying or aft
9、erdrying, shall be not abnormally pungent or disagreeable. Thesemipaste shall conform to the following requirements:Pigment, min, % 87.5Linseed oil, max, % 10.5Moisture and other volatile matter, %A1.5 to 3.0Moisture, max, % 0.7Coarse particles and skins (total residue retainedon a No. 325 (45-m) si
10、eve), max, % of thedry pigment1.5_AThe volatile matter shall be turpentine, volatile petroleum spirits, or any mixturethereof.3.4 The color and color strength, when specified, shall bewithin mutually agreed upon limits of a standard acceptable toboth the purchaser and the seller.4. Sampling4.1 Two s
11、amples shall be taken at random from differentpackages from each lot, batch, days pack, or other unit ofproduction in a shipment. When no markings distinguishingbetween units of production appear, samples shall be takenfrom different packages in the ratio of two samples for each 5tons (inch-pound or
12、 SI), except that for shipments of less than10 000 lb two samples shall be taken. At the option of thepurchaser, the samples may be tested separately or afterblending in equal quantities the samples from the sameproduction unit to form a composite sample.1This specification is under the jurisdiction
