Composition and Properties3.1 Dry PigmentThe pigment shall be free of adulterantsand shall contain not more than traces of impurities incident towell-controlled manufacture of high-grade basic carbonatewhite lead. The pigm
6、ent shall conform to the followingrequirements:Lead carbonate, % 62 to 75Moisture and other volatile matter, max, % 0.7Total other impurities, max, % 1.0Coarse particles (total residue retained on a No.325 (45-m) sieve), max, %1.03.2 Paste in OilThe paste shall be made by thoroughlygrinding the spec
7、ified pigment with linseed oil. The paste shallnot be caked in the container and shall break up readily in oilto form a smooth paint of brushing consistency. The semipaste sha
9、ll not be caked in the container andshall be readily stirred to a uniform mixture which shall mixreadily with oil, turpentine, or volatile petroleum spirits to forma smooth paint of brushing consistency. The odor of thesemipaste, as taken from the container, while drying or afterdrying, shall be not
10、 abnormally pungent or disagreeable. Sampling4.1 Two samples shall be taken at
12、 random from differentpackages from each lot, batch, days pack, or other unit ofproduction in a shipment. When no markings distinguishingbetween units of production appear, samples shall be takenfrom different packages in the ratio of two samples for each 5tons (inch-pound or SI), except that for sh
13、ipments of less than10 000 lb two samples shall be taken.
