15、 coatings isuseful to producers and users and to environmental and healthand safety interests in comparing the coverage of competingproducts and in estimating the volatile organic content.4. Procedure4.1 Aerosol CoatingsTest Method D3062 covers the de-termination of solids content (weight %) in aero

16、sol coatings.4.2 Volatile Content of Coatings (Test Method D2369)This test method covers the determination of the volatilecontent of coatings. It is considered to be applicable to mostsolvent-reducible and water-reducible paints.4.3 High Performance Interior Architectural Wall Coatings(HIPAC)Determi

17、ne the nonvolatile content of HIPAC coat-ings in accordance with Test Methods D1644. Calculate thevolatile content (weight %) by difference.4.3.1 Method A3 h at 105C for paints with nonsolventcomponents that decompose at higher temperature.4.3.2 Method B10 min at 149C for most paints withnonsolvent

23、hol-soluble varnishes, oxidizing air-drying varnishes,thermosetting varnishes, oxidizing baking varnishes, air-dryingasphaltic varnishes, silicone varnishes, and thermo-settinglaminating varnishes.4.9.2 Determine nonvolatile matter in electrical insulatingvarnishes intended for electrical equipment

24、operating at 180Cand above in accordance with Test Methods D115 except thatthe temperature used shall be 135 6 3C (275 6 5.5F) or ata temperature agreed upon between the producer and the user.4.10 Volume Nonvolatile Matter in Clear or PigmentedCoatings (Test Method D2697)This test method is applicab

25、leto the determination of the volume nonvolatile matter ofcoatings. A gloss enamel, a flat wall paint, a gloss house paint,an industrial baking enamel, an interior latex paint, and anexterior latex paint included in formal collaborative studies ofthis test method.4.11 Lacquer CoatingsDetermine the n

26、onvolatile contentof clear and pigmented lacquers as described in Test MethodsD1644. As an additional requirement, the specimen shall bereheated and reweighed until the weight is constant to within 1mg. Method A of Test Methods D1644 is preferred sinceMethod B is potentially dangerous when used with

27、 lacquers.4.12 Magnet Wire EnamelsThe Determined Solids andStack Loss sections of Test Method D3288 cover the determi-nation of nonvolatile content (weight %) in magnet wireenamels.4.13 Coatings for PlasticsDetermine nonvolatile matter inclear and pigmented coatings designed for use on rigid orsemir

28、igid plastic substrates in accordance with Test MethodsD1644.4.14 Polymeric Powders and Powder CoatingsDeterminenonvolatile content (weight %) in accordance with the Accel-erated Storage Stability section of Coating Powder Propertiesof Practices D3451. Determine volatile content at baking orfusion t

29、emperature in accordance with the Cured Weight Lossfor Thermosetting Coating Powders section of PracticesD3451.4.15 Traffc PaintsDetermine the nonvolatile content oftraffic paints, ready-mixed, of spraying consistency of thepremix, drop-in, or combination type in accordance with TestMethods D1644, a

30、nd state any necessary larger specimen sizefor beaded paint. Either of the two methods can be used asfollows:4.15.1 Method A3 h at 105C for paints with nonsolventcomponents that decompose at higher temperature.4.15.2 Method B10 min at 149C for most paints withnonsolvent components that are reasonabl

31、y stable at 149C.4.16 VarnishesNonvolatile content (weight %) of var-nishes is determined using Test Methods D1644. These testmethods may give high results due either to incompleteelimination of volatile matter or to absorption of oxygen byoxidizing-type varnishes.4.17 Solvent-Based Interior Semiglo

32、ss Wall and TrimEnamelsUse Test Method D2369 to determine volatile con-tent. Volume nonvolatile matter is determined in accordancewith Test Method D2697.4.18 Silanes, Siloxanes and Silane-Siloxane Blends Used inMasonry Water Repellant TreatmentsTest Method D5095describes a procedure for the determin
